Brian Wilson, The Mountain Winery, Saratoga, CA, 6-18-15

This was the first night of a 20 show tour spanning the U.S. One hour 45 minute set..........I'm sure they would have played longer but there is a strict time limit at the Winery. Rodriguez opened, 30 minute solo set. He was good but I'm not going to rush out and buy his entire two record catalogue.
Great harmonies as expected during Brian's set and I've got video to prove it. Much more video to come. Wilson went deep into the Beach Boys catalogue, which he did not do the last two times I've seen him. Don (dszobo) sat next to me and he's got all their 60's records, so he was able to inform me that tunes #15 and 16 were from the 60's record "Friends". Don also informed me that tunes 17 - 20 are from Brian's new solo record, "No Pier Pressure".
The only complaint I can come up with is that both Brian's voice and Blondie Chaplin's voice are showing the ravages of time. The backing harmonies mostly make up for it; they know when to come in when there is a short verse where Brian just can't hit the note. Chaplin came onstage very late in the show, played guitar and got lead vocals on two or three tunes. One of my favorite Beach Boys tunes, Sail On Sailor, is one that Chaplin sang on originally and he did it tonight. He must have been a couple of octaves lower and the song REALLY suffered for it. I was quite disappointed. Other than that.............sterling set, and as expected, a band full of extremely high level musicians. Hard to tell, but it seemed like everyone in this 11 piece orchestra sang. Matt Jardine, Al's son, proved he's got Daddy's genes running strong in him with lead vocals on several tunes including a superlative Don't Worry Baby which is captured on video below.
Inspiring just to see Wilson up there; of the three Wilson brothers, who ever thought that Brian would be the last one standing? Having original Beach Boy Al Jardine (white suit) standing to Brian's left increased the goose bump factor even more.
Here's a setlist, and some video below that.

they are in Atlanta at the fox on Friday, good seats still available.

I watched all the videos and you really did a nice job on this. Thanks so much for sharing this. I've always loved the Beach Boys....and for my money THAT's the Beach Boys!

Im hitting up the show here in 7/1. Cant wait.
( Blew past your setlist, Ill go back to it after my show and compare..lol)
Im curious of the live sound. Ge has a totally different band now, other then 1 guy I think... including long time vocalist Jeff Foskett. ( How hit all of Brians old high notes)
Very happy to see Blondie and Al are part of the tour

Pretty much concur with Rob although I think Brian still sings well. "Love and Mercy" (written for his later vocal range) was an impressive closer. Saying that I still missed Jeff Foskett who could really nail the high parts on the earlier material. Was great to see Al Jardine back with Brian again. Vocally he still holds his own. Blondie Chaplin definitely struggled for the high notes in his cameo role.
When it comes to a Beach Boys related show I expect great vocals/arrangements and lots of fun/energetic tunes. Overall, Brian and his band did not disappoint. Like that he is delving into the late 60's catalog. Also, "She Knows Me Too Well" was a nice surprise to hear. I think Matt Jardine took the lead vocal.
BTW, the name of Brian's new album is No Pier Pressure. My mistake, Rob. Thanks for posting the video links.
Also enjoyed the new movie about Brian's life, Love and Mercy. Anybody who appreciates Brian's tumultuous journey and redemption should give it a look.

Could you please post the video for God Only Knows? Pretty please?

Thanks, glad you and others are enjoying it. I'm really surprised at how good the sound came out on this considering I was in the section furthest from the stage.

I did not shoot the entire show and did not get God Only Knows. Sorry. I know I have a couple more but I can't remember what. Check the homepage of anything goes, I'm going to post Surfer Girl there right now.

Glad you could make it Don, was a splendid evening.

Nice to hear. I just put up a couple more pictures above in this thread including one of Brian and Al. I looked, I have only one more video in the can, The Little Girl I Once Knew, and it's quite good. It'll be up here sometime today.

Thanks for all of the info and the videos-I thoroughly enjoyed them all!
His music brings back at lot of good memories.....

saw brian last night, pretty remarkable show--although I miss jeff foskett too. most of this band has been with him for years & that's pretty obvious. brian had a big white piano to sit behind & he was pretty engaged in the concert, which was nice, although as soon as he finished good vibrations he just up and walked off, like he was headed for the kitchen or something. I thought the setlist was sort of scattered & I could have done without this whole world, cotton fields (?? never understood why they recorded that to start with) & wild honey, but the high point for me was the encore medley, all summer long>>fun fun fun. hard to believe I saw the beach boys in 1965 doing most of those same tunes and here's brian and al 50 years later & still rockin'!

the ajc music critic liked the encore medley too, plus she got the setlist, or most of it:

Saw Brian tonight in NJ.
Slightly different setlist.
