Booker T. Jones: "Hang 'Em High", San Jose Jazz Festival, 8-11-18

Only one I shot yesterday at San Jose Jazz Festival, his opening tune. Sterling set by Booker T. and that is his son Ted Jones on guitar. Billed as "The Booker T. Jones Soul and R&B Review", that's exactly what it was. He had several great singers in his band who all did a couple of tunes; besides of course the string of MG's instrumental hits they did Hold On I'm Comin', I'm A Soul Man, Try A Little Tenderness, Knock On Wood, Mr. Big Stuff and a bunch of others. What a show!
Booker T.'s place in music history is secure. Consider this: His first hit, Green Onions, came out in 1962 when he was 18 and a senior in high school. That would make him right around 74 years old. He sure doesn't look it. And 51 years ago, 1967, The MG's backed up Otis Redding at Monterey Pop. Booker T. is still making records and has a brand new one. The last one I bought was Potato Hole which must have come out 10 years ago. It's a GREAT instrumental record and features Neil Young.

Thanks Rob! I've become a big Booker T fan of late. Back in 2011 while visiting the local Barns and Noble music department, I asked the rep about the music that was playing. He said it was the Booker T. and the MG's album The Road From Memphis. Bought a copy then and there and have enjoyed it since.
Earlier this year, I came across this video. I remember seeing it on tv when I was a wee lad. Thank you internet!
