This book is something else, man. A huge sprawling epic structured around the 1976 assassination attempt on Bob Marley, covers the whole spectrum of Jamaican politics, music, culture, US third world intervention and colonialism... it is just huge, like those 19th century sagas. It's War and Peace in a cloud of ganja, enjoy !!! Marlon James author, this cat can write!

cool runnins

ok, gotcha... and duly noted... Well, other than all that, this is a fantastic book ! I am enjoying the hell out of it! One of my top ten, and I've got Marlon James right up there with Cormac McCarthy in my top five contemporary authors. The novel as an art form is pretty much dead, and it's guys like these that breathe life into it by taking risks and creating new style. Really looking forward to his other work!

Since it wasn't cited, I was curious what periodical this review was from and found it is some Joe Schmuckface Amazon.com customer review. Not that customer reviews don't have merit (I haven't read the book myself) but citing someone else's customer review seems pretty, pretty, pretty lazy.

Alpha, not that everything should be glowing reviews of everything, but you seem like you have a bit of an axe to grind around here lately? What gives? What DO you like? And Just the facts, please.

strikes me odd that you would read his first novel John Crow's Devil, hate it, then pick up this one. Usually if an author makes me sick, I don't look back.

>>>The only reason this book won is because the author is black and because of our rabidly PC culture

This is not a red flag, no not at all.

Amazon and other net places that have customer reviews will have suspect / phony reviews. Competition plants negative reviews often. Part of biz now. Read with caution. Glowing reviews can be bs also. This one read with as aiq noted, a pre-agenda.
