Bobby Caldwell on timbales from Johnny Winters Band

Got the 6 CD Fillmore set for Christmas.
There was a long thread about this set when it came out, and a lot of people were whining about how bad Juicy sounds on the first 2 shows and how he makes those Liz Reeds "unlistenable"
Not so! Please go back and try that early show Liz Reed one more time. But instead of being mad about Juicy, listen to the DRUMS! This is a chance to hear what a "Marc Quinones" type of band member would have sounded like back in the day and it sounds FANTASTIC! Also, Duane's solo is incendiary. Incendiary! This is my favorite unreleased track on this set by far.
It should have been the same for the late show as Duane says Bobby Caldwell is there, but I can't hear him at all. Wonder if he was there, or if Tom Dowd was mad about guests and turned him down in the mix?
Whatever the reason, he's definitely there on the early show.

I was at the early show on Friday. You could not hear Juicy Collins live. He was not miked well andd was lost in the mix.

Wow that must have been a fine weekend to see the Brothers!

Completely agree with you, Joe. Bobby has a very strong presence on that early show Liz Reed. As you mention his contribution has a Marc Quinoes feel and adds a whole another dimension to an already very strong rhythm section. And Duane certainly does soar. To make the track more enjoyable I edited out Juicy's "contribution".

I handle Juicy like he's somebody trying to talk to me while i'm listening to The Allman Brothers Band jam. My brain just kind of blocks it out!
