After the Allman Brothers, I have seen Bob Dylan probably more than any other act.  None of the dates on this tour are really in driving distance (II have flown to several Bob shows).  It's just as well - for me personally.

I am yet reluctant to purchase tickets to ANYTHING until a fork has been stuck in the Covid spread.  Starting from last summer, I am out literally $thousands of dollars on tickets that I bought for shows that either didn't happen (Ringo, 'Stones, etc.) and shows that despite efforts by the artist - I didn't feel safe in attending (Jason Isbell).  The Ringo tickets are still good for a show that may or may not ever happen (Ringo is an octogenarian).  The 'Stones did issue a refund, which went straight into the account of a dear friend who actually purchased the tickets (3) after I'd given him the money ... said friend doesn't recall this part of the dealio - but it's all good( getting old sucks!  First thing to go is the memory!)  Jason Isbell attempted to mandate a proof of vaccination and mask ordinance.  The show might've been safe, but having already lost 3 friends (and several others who became seriously ill with the virus) - I decided to chicken out - ate the tickets.  I bought the Isbell tickets months before the scheduled date - when it looked like the virus might be on its last legs.  The virus staged a comeback that rivaled the "Heidi Bowl" (if you remember this you are also officially old).

If Bob was playing within 400 miles, I'd be mighty tempted.  I'm gonna pass on what could end up being my last chance to see Bob Dylan.  Thanks, Covid.

@rusty Yes be careful. I'm sorry you've lost so much money. Maybe you will get to use those tickets someday.

I have a friend 20 years younger than me in ICU right now with Covid. AND HE WAS FULLY VACCINATED!! His doctor says there are many "break through" cases but generally those cases do not lead to serious hospitalization. But not with this friend. He has been in hospital now for 2 weeks.

I got a Pfizer booster shot Saturday at a drug store. Now I've had THREE Covid shots. It's scary.

I've never seen Dylan. I don't know what he generally charges for tix but I have heard his shows can be hit or miss, quality wise. I have no point of reference. Anyway I saw the tour starts in Milwaukee, which I can do. That venue is really cool, very intimate. The next night is here in Chicago in an absolutely beautiful old theater. The cheapest ticket I saw is $172 before fees. I like the guy but I am not paying probably $200 on him.

I am curious Rusty. How are you out thousands of dollars? Don't you get your money back if a show is cancelled/postponed? I was going to go to a concert last Friday that was cancelled for whatever reason, rescheduled for the end of April and I was given the option of keeping my actual seat for then or getting my money back. It was only about $60 so I may or may not refund it.

@lee Am I being audited?  😉  I don't have an actual calculator receipt tape but for instance, I have tickets for the Ringo/Allstars show that was postponed from the summer before last.  It's already been rescheduled twice.  Yeah, I could have gotten a TM refund, but I wanted to go to the show and kept the tickets.  When it got re-rescheduled, I just reconciled that it was money that would've been long-gone any and just opted to keep them.  There's the 'Stones story that I alluded to.  I bought primo tix for the Jason Isbell show when it honestly looked like Covid would soon be over.  He played the show, but I personally chose not to go.  All 4 members concurred and we didn't go.  There are a couple of other cancellation that I did get refunds for - a few more outstanding.  "A couple of thousand" - maybe that was a little exaggerated, but not by much at all.

Well I am an accountant/auditor but we look at things from the potential bad guy side of things. 😉

I guess if I was out thousands of dollars I would get my money back but if you have disposable income that you aren't worried about I can see hanging onto the tickets.

@lee I didn't mean to make a "hard rain" fall on a Bob Dylan thread, either.  Just part of my ongoing Covid-Phobia.  I optimistically bought tickets for shows that probably shouldn't have been scheduled.  Please dismiss my rant as such.

@rusty I have received THREE Pfizer Covid shots now and continue to be a little scared. I know a man in his 50's and fully vaccinated in the ICU very sick with Covid. He is a teacher and everyone in his history classes caught it. They were NOT vaccinated. 6th graders.

As to Bob. I got a little bored after 30 minutes or so when I saw him with just an acoustic guitar and mounted harp. But his electric show was real fine and rockin'!!

I don't think it matters how close the performance is if the concern is Covid. I'm w/you on the risks of breakthroughs & new strains. For the foreseeable future, there isn't a concert, play, movie, or event that I want to risk my life on. Yes, I know the risk is low & breakthrough cases are milder than unvaxxed Covid, but nothing is that important. Some indoor social functions - 2 weddings, 1 bar mitzvah, 1 birthday party - have been cancelled because it turned out invitees had lied to the hosts about being vaxxed but came clean before the event. I also just don't want to be around unvaxxed people. A lot of them want to provoke a discussion in which I have zero interest. There's no reasoning w/fanatics.

@cyclone88 I passed on a family funeral just last week.  A somewhat "backwards" segment of my family tree in a decidedly blue state/community with HIGH numbers of Covid infection and death.  I attended a wedding in the same small town (same cast of characters) just weeks before I'd heard the words, Covid and Corona Virus for the first time.  Lot's of folks - in  a CHURCH wearing side-arms.  I hate being judgemental , but these didn't seem like vaccinators or maskers so I chose not to attend the funeral.

Rusty, wow just wow. Numerous people in a church with sidearms? Sheesh. Sounds to me like that part of the family tree may have root rot working on them.

On the bright side it apparently wasn't a "shotgun wedding."

@oldcoot If you use a white shotgun - it's a "formal" wedding!

@rusty

It's not being judgmental; it's making a risk assessment based on your knowledge of the people involved & that community. The last thing the bereaved family needs is someone starting a confrontation about the Corona Virus. Disrespectful at best.

@rusty May I suggest: Not a rant but rather a clear expression of an abundance of caution re COVID....Did you see Neil Young's recent statement after he exited Farm Aid?
