Blackberry Smoke recommendations?

Any recommendations?
I tried before in the past, but just was not making the connection. Kinda reminded of new country crossover rock stuff....dunno. I guess I was looking for more authentic southern rock thing and was not hearing it. Probably should give them another chance.
Wanting to see Allman Betts Band this summer. Looking for a reason to stay for BlackBerry.
Thanks
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I like them but i think they are kinda lacking in the guitar department. Which is maybe unfair to them. I think they wanna focus on playing very catchy rock songs with a southern flavor and not going for the long guitar solos. Saw them recently in London, UK, and they added a third guitarist and a percussionist. Not sure if that was a one-off. If you wanna check them out again you should try one of their live releases. Or maybe go save and look them up on youtube or download a show or two.
If you're looking for more authentic sounding southern rock i strongly recommend:
Robert Jon & The Wreck.
(also The Steelwoods)

My first BS cd was The Whipporill. Great cd and I still spin it.
They also do some great covers. When I saw them, they closed with Fairies Wear Boots. Kicked ass!

I think they wanna focus on playing very catchy rock songs
Yeah...that was my impression ,and it really turned me off and disappointed. Reminded of the generic country on the radio these days.

I love them, One of the best bands out there. https://www.blackberrysmoke.com/
I have all their discs, Some are stronger than others, but every disc has something for me. Very Skynyrd-ish, Torch bearers for Southern Rock. Great riffs and some honky tonk with jamming anthems. Their guitars are their strength. They reward their fans with very diverse set lists with deep cuts of their own and others.
Ain't Much Left Of Me and One Horse Town is to them what Sweet Home Alabama and Freebird was to Skynyrd, what Green Grass And High Times with Hurry Sundown was to the Outlaws, what Whipping Post and Midnight Rider were to the Allmans, & lastly what Can't You See and Heard It In A Love Song was to Marshall Tucker.
The crowd will sing every word while swaying to the music with peace and happiness in their hearts. Ain't Much Left Of Me is a live staple with the band rotating the middle section, almost like a dream sequenced mini visit to another classic song and then back into the song. They've dabbled in When The Levee Breaks, Mississippi Kid, 3 Little Birds, and other tunes in that middle section.
So that's where I'll start.
Ain't Much Left Of Me (electric Brooklyn Bowl 9/7/19)
One Horse Town (unplugged NYC 4/7/19)
Here's a sampling from some of the shows I've caught.
That's All Right Mama (w/Daniel Donato)
Not Fade Away (w/JD Simo)
I'll Keep Ramblin'
Restless (w/Things Goin' On tease)
Waiting For The Thunder
Good One Coming On
Payback's A Bitch
Lord Strike Me Dead/Run Away From It All
I Ain't Got The Blues Any More (unplugged)
The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down (unplugged)
Althea (unplugged)
Everybody Knows She's Mine (unplugged)
The Whippoorwill (unplugged)
Hard Times (unplugged)
Columbus Stockade Blues (unplugged)
White Freightliner Blues (unplugged)
Free On The Wing (unplugged w/Gregg story)
Sunrise In Texas (outdoor festival)
Sleeping Dogs/Come Together (outdoor festival)
Up In Smoke (outdoor Festival)
6 Ways To Sunday (outdoor festival)
Working For A Working Man (outdoor Festival)
Crimson Moon (outdoor festival)
These songs span their whole career, I recommend all their CD/albums. I love them. https://www.blackberrysmoke.com/

I've tried and failed too. I dig them when they pull out a cover, or sit in with TTB, but I'm usually checking the clock when they start playing their own material. They are definitely more Nashville than Asheville.

Whippoorwill is a pretty strong album top to bottom....good place to start. Or just go see them live. They're great live.

I try to like them. I want to like them. I feel like I should like them, but I don't. Even though I know they are authentic, something about it makes me think it's not. I think it's the lyrics are very modern country.

I'd paraphrase they're more 710 Ashbury St than Nashville. In case it gets lost in the bigger post, This tune show some depth to their jam band skills, They riff for a sec on 3rd Stone and 10 min's in they toss a verse of Come Together, but this is an original extended jam, This is a Rock Band.
Sleeping Dogs/Come Together (Rock, Ribs, & Ridges Festival, Augusta, NJ '17)

Yeah, just not my jam. Maybe it's the iphone mic, but all I hear is a bunch of guitar pedals on a country song. Dig the keyboards though.

Have all their cd's, live dvd, and saw them back up Mule and on Gregg's Laid Back tour. I like them. Whipporwill is a great album, IMHO.....
They can be a little country, and some of the lyrics are a little silly, but I enjoy them. Love that they throw in a lot of covers - a couple of them played with Mule on a Neil Young encore when I saw them a couple of years ago in Peoria.

Well said! Cheers!

Thanks to Fretsman for taking the time to post the videos. I did run through a good part of those over the last few days. Just not making the connection. I guess not for me.
Porkchopbob and WarEagleRK comments I tend to agree with.
The modern country music is not for me.....for many reasons. Just my opinion and preferences.

It's all good, Different strokes for different folks. Every band will have it's detractors. I recall some posts regarding the TTB? That's another band I love. Blackberry Smoke has a nice vein of deep rooted musical Americana. I do love 'em. They have a loyal extended family that echoed some smoke through the mountains of Jersey.
The tour with Allman Betts Band should be sweet. The close out encores with Jaimoe and all bands should be a sight to hear. I have to check out the Wild Feathers, I know nothing of them.
