“Last Song for My Resting Place,”

Black Country Communion have released a video for their song “Last Song for My Resting Place,” which you can watch above. It’s taken from the supergroup’s latest album, BCCIV, which came out last month.

The follow-up to 2012’s Afterglow was recorded with producer Kevin Shirley after singer Glenn Hughes and guitarist Joe Bonamassa settled the differences that caused the band to implode. Keyboardist Derek Sherinian and drummer Jason Bonham both returned for the sessions.

Former Deep Purple and Black Sabbath member Hughes recently explained that Bonamassa had come up with the “Last Song for My Resting Place” lyrics. “Joe told me, ‘I’ve got this idea about a song about the head violin player, or the leader of the orchestra, on the Titanic,'" he recalled. "I said, ‘That’s a really good idea.’ He wrote a lyric about the violin player. I thought it was a great opportunity to show how versatile Joe is, so I’m really happy for Joe.”

Hughes noted that the new album's theme is “walking through the fear.” “All the songs were written with a topic," he said. "What kind of song we’re going to write musically, what kind of song am I going to write lyrics about? This album is about walking through the fear, having faith, hope, the killing of dolphins – which I’m against, of course. The results speak for themselves. All four of us wanted to make a record that stood up to the first three albums. The new album is more of a progression.”

Black Country Communion have confirmed two U.K. shows for early next year. They’ll play Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Jan. 2 and at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on Jan. 4.

I think that song is the best Joe has ever sang in the studio. Killer solo too.

I like the tune so it is a trio.

Thanks for the background on the songwriting. Definitely a mix of styles.

Have to say watching him read the lyrics in the video was distracting.

Luv the title.

I think they were going for a "if he is reading it then it must be deep" moment. LOL

I am usually not a huge fan of his vocals but thought he really took it to a different level on this.

If you enjoyed the previous albums then you will again.

Maybe it’s just my old college film criticism class kicking in ... but did anybody else see that Glenn Hughes had almost zero screen time? Joe was featured almost exclusively although Bonham received enough to know he was definitely there. Then Derek S. got a couple of shots, but if you didn’t know Hughes was in the band, would you be able to tell from this video? Who knows? Maybe he had a cold sore. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. It is late.

Ha! I thought maybe due to the story, it was supposed to his final letter home but pretty sure it wouldn't have survived the iceberg.

Music must be good if I'm picking on the video.

I agree about the solo, those heavy bends he does a the beginning bring a nice touch and feel.

I might be eating some crow concerning this release. Was not to hot on it from the first get go. Played it again last weekend while I was working in the yard, might be having second thoughts about by initial reaction. I have got a bad habit of judging things to quick out of the gate.
