Pretty damn good. Ensemble cast. To call it a musical wouldn't even be right. Pretty much just songs surrounded by some loosely connected storyline.

Good music.

There's a Irish tune played in the bar that is really really good.

And Miley Cirus even does Silent Night pretty well.

We're having some friends over for New Year's eve like we do annually. Always very chill and focused around a blow-out meal with great wine and bubbly.

I'm thinking that having this special on in the background might be a festive way for folks to pop in and out of, maybe be a conversation starter, and possibly some sing along.

Having only seen the previews so far, is that something you think could work?

Appreciated

As a HUGE and devout Bill Murray fan I was disappointed. I guess I was hoping for something more surreal or something. The "Irish tune" you speak of was weak (in my most humble of opinions) in comparison to the original item ("Fairytale of New York" - the Pogues). There are many works that simply do not need to be reproduced, as the original was very much on the mark. The Mona Lisa ... the Sistene Chapel ... Fairytale of New York! And for me, Milly Ray Cyrus just lent nothing to the production. 😉

I saw it and loved it for what it was. Not like it was released for theaters and movie ticket prices.

Took me a bit to recognize David Johansen.

I thought it was classic Bill Murray.

I googled the song after I watched the show, and listened to the Pogues version, which is quite strong.

Having never heard the original version, I had nothing to compare the show's version to, but I did turn to my brother-in-law in the middle of the song and be like "this is a pretty cool song."

For whatever reasons, I generally like covers of song -- not that I always prefer them to the original, but I think it's fun to hear other people doing songs. I like hearing people do things differently, I like ensemble versions, etc. I think it's fun, and I try not to get bogged down in comparisons . . . I mean, I LOVE watching the YouTube version of Mariah and Jimmy Fallon and the Roots doing "All I Want for Christmas." Otherwise, I guess my music would be limited listening to scratchy Robert Johnson songs all day.

Anyway, the whole bar coming together to sing that Pogues song had a nice Christmas-y vibe to it, and I just thought it was cool.

As for Miley, I thought she acquitted herself nicely. Just a well-done straight-forward version of the song. But, my reaction to her may have been bred more of surprise and low expectations.

I also thought the singing waitress -- cannot remember her name, my wife knew her, I had never seen or heard her before -- sang quite well and wasn't bad on the eyes at all.

Perhaps. Guess it all depends on the vibe you're shooting for. I don't know that it would start much conversation. The "story" is pretty much non-existent. More a bunch of interesting takes on songs done by some interesting folks.
