Hey Folks, My girlfriend's daughter got a Crosley Cruiser record player for Christmas, but the dang thing quit working after about a week. The sound, while the thing was working, was not very good, with wobbles and lots of weird skipping on clean records. After I read the reviews on Amazon, I found out that these cheapo Crosley record players are so awful that they can actually damage the records.

Anybody out there know of a good portable record player on the market now for less than $150?? We're looking for something that is portable, has built-in speakers, but also has output jacks in back for small bookshelf speakers. The sound quality should be good enough that you can hear the difference that vinyl makes.

Not "portable" but this one is worth a look. Connects via Bluetooth for remote speaker playback.

May want to return it and try again . . . I got a Crosley for Father's Day in 2013, and it's been working great. And, I play it every day, so it's getting a fair amount of use.

That being said, I've read lots of bad reviews, so maybe I just got lucky.

It was announced, but wasn't released when I was looking to buy so I ended up going with a TEAC TN-300 to start spinning my old vinyl again. It hooks direct into a remote speaker via cable (not Bluetooth) with a built in pre-amp. A bit more expensive too.

Which model of Crosley turntable do you have? (Some of their models sounded a bit better than others in the reviews on Amazon.)

Thank you. It looks like TEAC is still making some nice quality turntables, although your model is a bit over our price range. But it looks like they have some cheaper ones that work, too. My favorite turntable company is Technics, but they quit making their best models a few years ago. However, it looks like production of the Technics SL-1200 will begin again this year- the classic DJ/audiophile turntable that's "built like a tank". These are way too pricey brand new, but used Technics turntables are something to look for on craigslist, in thrift shops and at yard sales.

Anyone out there have an inexpensive turntable/record player they like?

I've had my Pioneer PL -12 around 40 years now. Took it to get "serviced" last year(belt/stylus)and the tech said the drck with the same servicing, will be spinning lp's a 100 years from now ! Grin
