Here are one person's opinions:

Allman Brothers Greatest Hits: 12 Top Tunes (msn.com)

I beg to differ on some but I think it's a pretty solid list. I would put Nobody Knows in and definitely take out Liz Reed. I would re-order some as well. But of course, it's subjective.

"Hits"?  The only one that comes to mind is the time I hit that gigantic doob that someone passed me between songs at a Beacon show.  My eyes watered, my throat hurt a little and I think smoke actually came out of my butt.  Song-wise, there's "Ramblin' Man" but I've never become watery-eyed blind while listening to it.

I had to re-read that twice to make sure I understood. Take out "Liz Reed"? It's not even my favorite Dickey instrumental, but it's a top-5 ABB song. Do you mean it's not your favorite or you don't think it's a good song?

I would drop "Soulshine" for "Little Martha", otherwise it's a pretty safe list.

Didn't see You Don't Love Me anywhere. Even better than Statesboro for blasting on a big stereo.

No love for "Desdemona"?  Personally, I think that song is as good as anything that any incarnation of the band has ever done.

@tenorsfan Indeed it is. " Put your hands together for this".  Duane Allman's solos are SMOKING!! Good Dickey solo, Gregg on organ and Ace on harp. Then the jamming after the song that's good to blast.

I've rethought my list.

1.) Maybe We Can Go Back To Yesterday.

2.) Angeline

3. ) Just Another Love Song

4.) I've Go A Right To Be Wrong

5. ) The Heat Is On

6. ) Rocking Horse

7. ) Hell And High Water

8.) Mystery Woman

9.) So Long

10.) Sail Away

11. ) Firing Line

12. ) Sweet Mama

13. ) Desert Blues

My number one!!

Bob - To your question, I guess I would answer "yes" to both parts. Just not my cup of tea. As I mentioned in my post, this is subjective.

We all like different things. And that is definitely a beer-n-bathroom song for me. Dreams is probably my favorite. Maybe I'll think of my top-12 this weekend. Smile

Hey, I'm not judging your taste - no need to get all passive aggressive defensive.

The list says "greatest" not "favorite" - the former being supposedly objective and the latter being subjective. "Liz Reed" isn't one of my favorite ABB tunes either, but I would certainly call it one of their greatest songs. So I'm not surprised if someone else doesn't love it, but it surprises me if someone thinks it's not a good song.

Sorry, my bad. Just thought I would post that article I ran across. I still don't like the song but hey, I don't think Allman and Woman is so horrible. Wink

🎶all good, must say, it’s the first time I’ve ever seen Liz Reed mentioned as a bathroom-break song - not trying to be a troll, just sayin🤙:good lists: - theyd both be on my list

studio versions

Blue Sky

Every Hungry Woman

LMBAHome

Liz Reed (Idlewild South)

Nobody Knows (SOTWorlds)

BWIABegins (studio)

Instrumental Illness/From The Madness Of The West

JJ’s Alley

High Cost Low Living

Jelly Jelly

Gambler’s Roll

finally, Wasted Words/CLWYNHad/End of the Line/DKMWonderin/others

the live WP>Mtn Jam in terms of “greatest” vis a vis “favorite” would supplant most of the list🍄 - both terms amount to basically the same thing to me - swift I am not🎼

Same. Allman Bros music is like a rorschach test, since they draw from so many genres everyone hears something completely different. How many band's crowds are a mix of bikers and jazz heads?
