First I heard of this - I will certainly read Jorma's bio, he must have some excellent tales and insights. Thx for the heads up!

Mind if I ask what your reservations are about the book?

Would like to hear what made the book not so great - gotta carry some weight coming from a huge Jorma fan who announced the book before we were aware of it.

Music autobios seem to tank more often than not. When they are good it is a great ride - Al Kooper's Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards pretty much set the bar impossibly high IMO, they have all seemed kinda tepid since I read that one.

My main interest in the Jorma story is the musicology of his style of playing, insights on Rev. Gary Davis and other guitarists - since Jorma was one of a very few who revived old time acoustic fingertstyle - if he covered a bit of his vast archive of knowledge about that then it will be worthwhile I think.

It's a memoir of his life, with a lot left out. More an inner chronicle
than an outer one. It's his book, of course.

Pros: a lot about his early years and how the airplane came together.
Lots of stuff about guitars and motorbikes and cars and speed skating.

Cons: many missed opportunities to clarify things or offer deeper insight, a
ghost writer or writing partner would have caught this. Very repetitive. Again,
a writing partner would have caught this. Or a more participatory editor. Not
a lot about learning guitar in the form of stories, it's more like he mentions
a name and then thanks them... And moved on

In the end I only kept reading to see if it would get better and not because
the story was compelling.

Thought there would be more pictures, I had the Kindle edition.

C+ to B-. Now deleted from my Kindle.

He's a great player and many of his interviews are far more interesting.

I'm in the middle of it - about 1/3 - 1/2 way through. Time wise, right after the release of Burgers and Bark.

I'm enjoying it.

As waitinforrain mentioned, I want to know a little more about the driving force behind Tuna - the move from acoustic to electric Tuna. I didn't get there yet so it will be interesting to see what he mentions etc.

also would have like more pics.

so far, it's a worthwhile read.
