Beacon March 20 2012

I'm spinning this show right now and it is a monster. The 2012 Beacon run doesn't get as much love as others since Gregg wasn't at full strength and missed the last show. The band tried to compensate, and infuse some freshness for themselves, with an acoustic set (Oteil on banjo!) and some new additions to the rotation ("Back Where I Started", "Needle & the Damage Done", "Dark End of the Street", etc) which not everyone embraced. Purists don't love the horns, but they undeniably bring some serious energy to the stage ("Southbound" from this lineup sounds naked without them to me). It might not be a traditional Allman Brothers show, but it's definitely a joy to listen to. Also, the sounds quality is noticeably stellar on this show, you can feel the crowd and the venue compared to some that sound somewhat lifeless.

Whipping Post
Anyways, after rapping me some Allman Brothers over on the AV Club Brothers & Sisters article the other day, I picked up 4 shows from munck. Obviously the band is done, and everyone is yapping on facebook these days, but it kind of bums me out when I see more people whining about politics over in the Whipping Post than talking music here. It made me realize how much I miss talking about this band.
Other shows I picked up:
3/25/2011
3/8/2014
3/21/2014 (even though it was sans Gregg, I was at this show and it was a beast. Oteil really shined. Can't wait to hear it again)
Any other post-2007 favorite shows that I should check out that I may not have thought of?

Great pick ups

Peach Fest 2014, I'm partial to these shows as they were the only two ABB shows I saw. Well worth the trip
