be afraid...be very afraid

I've seen Derek maybe 35 times between DTB, Allman's and TTB. He had me at hello. The scary part is after last night's show at SPAC, I honestly think he's still getting better. It blows my freakin' mind but I really believe it. What an incredible immense talent. I'm gushing I realize but I swear he IS getting better!!

He channels energy from someplace else and then adds his imprint onto it. He's never ceased being amazing.

Care of SpyGirl. I was at this gig. Sold me on Derek.

A thing I believe and have believed for a long time is that although Derek is not shy about pushing a jam to the limit - he is still sensitive about not showing off too much - he's always very cognizant of serving the song as a whole - and I swear I think he holds back a little. I think Derek is one of the all time greats on any instrument - and I think he has more gears yet that he very rarely unleashes.

Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

His playing has come together incredibly in the past 5-6 years, he is mastering nuance, he is really playing into the songs, he has grown tremendously as a bandleader. I was talking to one of his roadies last year and even that guy, who sees them every night said the same thing
"Derek is still getting better" he said. "I'm not sure even how to describe it"
TTB are a very well rounded band, they could not have done better with a 12 piece. You really can hear everyone's contributions. It's a great great mix and a rare thing.
