The church I go to is looking for a bassists . They know I play guitar , but needing someone to fill the bass role. I have played around with them from time to time but never personally owned one, but always wanted to. I do want to learn the right way so probably look into some lessons. So it looks like I might have a reason to buy one in the near future. Just looking for some thoughts,ideas and recommendations. I am a BUDGET musician, and not a gear snob, so open to most things reasonable and reliable.
What are the thoughts on short scale vs long scale? The two things that were brought up the most , obviously was the more comfortable neck and number two that the short scale would give more bottom end vs the long scale due to the tension of the strings. Just wanted to know the expert thoughts and the pros and cons if any vs the two. Might just be preference the way it sounds.

I'm mostly a guitar player, but I do dig Fender basses. The Gibson EB-0 basses play pretty smooth too, have a nice warm tone.
BUT, I have smaller hands, and a full-size bass wears my fingers out. So, I converted an acoustic guitar to a short-scale bass. If you add a pickup, it should work in a band setting. It has a nice warm, rootsy sound to it and the conversion is super simple and relatively cheap.

Is the base getting ran direct to the board or from a head/cabinet?
The natural tone from Fender Precision sounds great plugged straight into the box (IMHO) Alembic has some good sounding product that is great with modern stage/sound configuration/set-ups. Have fun!

FYI - the Fender MIM Jazz models are decent and inexpensive. I have a MIM Precision, which is also pretty good.
