Bands That Were Hugely Popular But You Never "Got It"

1. Supertramp: Lots of hits, tons of airplay. I just never liked them. It was the vocals for me.
2. Def Leppard: Just never quite got it. I can't ever remember a tune I liked.
3. Metallica: Just never liked anything I have heard. And no, I'm not anti-metal: As a kid in the 70's I was way into Sabbath and Judas Priest. I just never got Metallica, they always sounded like irritating noise to me.

Wow, did you nail that one, Supertramp cannot listen to something awful with that sound. ELO is another.

In the rock genre I would have to say just about all the Arena Rock bands. IE Boston, Foreigner, Styx ect. Yuck. I don't care for Def Leppard, or Rush either. They may have a song or two I like but there is just something about that over processed sound that turns me off, or maybe its the high pitch male vocals. I like rock gritty and grungy.

1) Pink Floyd
2) U2
3) Grateful Dead

Kansas
Moby Grape
The Knack
Def Leppard
Molly Hatchet

"Hugely popular"?

1. Rush
2. Styx
3. Guns and Roses

Journey
Foreigner
Styx
Queen

Worse for me is bands where "I got it", and can't stand what I got. Too many to name - I'll go with sckeys on most arena bands.

Grateful Dead
Def Leppard
Cheap Trick (liked the 2 big hits from the Budokan live album but can't stand their guitar "player")
Van Halen
U2 (after approx. 1990)

Ha!!!! I just about spit my tea out on that one!! I will throw in any Country music of the last 25 yrs on that too. Just don't get it. Commercialized, dime a dozen,.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Bruce Springsteen
Def Leppard
Guns & Roses
Bob Jovi
Van Halen
Radiohead
U2
Coldplay
Motley Crue

I respect the talent of The Police, especially the drums, but they never fully grabbed me. Sting's solo career turned me off even more.

Wow, so many of my favorite all time bands are on this list. Still listen to lots of this music, some curious mentions. Here's one that I still can't stand. R.E.M. Here's a few more. Beck, Nirvana, Metallica, Dave Matthew's Band. To each his own I guess.

Van Halen. I like a few tunes like Ice Cream Man and Hot for Teacher, but that’s it.
Sorry. You need to be disqualified from posting based on this comment alone.

All hair metal
Van Halen again
AC/DC again

Here's one that I still can't stand. R.E.M.
Couldn't agree with you more, whiny vocals to say the least.....

I love this thread! So many of the bands you never liked are my favorites, Grateful Dead, Bruce, REM, Talking Heads, etc. The bands that I never got were The Scorpions, Whitesnake, Poison, etc. Most all of the hair-metal bands just escape me for some reason.

I love the music of the Stones but find Mick personally disgusting. Always have. There is something about his persona that just grosses me out. I also can't stand his voice.
I also love Zeppelin's music but don't listen to it very often because of how they ripped off other songwriters. Even more, what bothers me is what a thug & coward Peter Grant was. No one in the history of R & R needed to be taken outside and given an ass kicking like that prick.
I love this thread also. Very cool & surprising opinions.

never was into Heavy Metal hair bands from 80s onward, punk
Arena bands I specifically don't like are Guns and Roses, Van Halen
when I was in college (76-80), I basically was anti everything that was popular (ie Fleetwood Mac w Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel from Stranger album and beyond, Steve Miller Band, Eagles, Cheap Trick to name a few. Some of this has become tolerable as the years have gone and you don't hear it everywhere, some hasn't
ETA - probably not meant as part of this, but never liked disco or rap. I must be one of the few people on earth that doesn't like Michael Jackson and can't stand the Thriller album.
