Here is a new topic. Bands that blow but you Still listen to them. Keep in mind it is all up to the listener. Just because I think they blow does not mean someone can not like them.
On a RARE very RARE occasion I will listen to 2 80s CDs. Saga and Deziel. They blow, not much more to say. I try to keep bands that blow out of my collection. Got them at a garage sale. There were 40 or so CDs for like 30 bucks. However I had to take them all to get what I wanted.

Saga has some pretty complex material and their own sound. They could also blend progressive with some commercial success which isn't easy. Maybe not for everyone but far from the "Blow" category. Far worse out there.

Honestly the word "blow" and musicians means a good thing....Jazz musicians "Blow"...meaning they have great chops
Now "blow" as an urban street word means it sucks....In several different ways......So are you talking as musician or as a street thug????

Blow usually has a completely different meaning for musicians and has nothing to do with skill at all. It also crosses all genres, increases production for an album or two and then it all falls apart.

Snort

Frank Zappa - Any Way the Wind Blows
Pat Travers - Snortin' Whiskey and Drinkin' Cocaine

Exacto Grin & include flicks in that too -- never saw it tho (Blow) -- Johnny Depp I think?
but 1 band that did blow, ie suck...well they tried hard but Boston's coattails wasn't enough to blow, wait propel, them to equal highs -- anyways the band New England, w/their self-titled album late 70s or so -- frizzed up hair, huge production, anthem guitar blasts, basically copying Boston -- but too late to the party....

That Johnny Depp movie is actually pretty good, based on a true story.

Got a bunch! Great thread concept btw

Ratt
Echo and the Bunnymen (Lips Like Sugar is one of my favorite songs) not sure they blow, actually some good musicianship there
Crucif*cks
Wendy O. Williams and the Plasmatics
Elton John (only like Rocket Man and Daniel, hate the rest, but he blows for sure)
The Bee Gees (only the first couple pop records, hate the disco)

And, the winner:
Blo, a Nigerian band mid 1970's, they don't blow at all but their name is Blo, sprang from the ashes of Ginger Baker's Nigerian band Salt. Really excellent! Once in a while ravin em up here, but nobody checks:

Man I had forgotten about those guys. Met them when they opened some shows for KISS and they were good guys. The drummer in one of my bands liked their album so we played Don't Ever Want To Lose Ya. They couldn't believe that we played it. I can barely remember how it goes now. Flashback Stephen. I liked them better live than on album. I remember that much.

We may have got them in trouble with KISS. Showed them this magical room in the old Montreal Forum. The Molson Room. VIP Room for free beer and food and as Molson is a brewery, the beer just never ran low. 😛 This was separate from all the free booze backstage of course and this beautiful room was there for all events. Free beer for sports and music, well it can't be beat.

Beautiful women also. Hard room to leave and when you did it was with a tray holding another four beers. We promised them a good night in Montreal and it was. Don't think the KISS boys or their crew appreciated the sobriety levels. While KISS played, we all stole the ladies backstage for a party. Told them the beer was on us. 😉

Great stuff James -- that's the one cut I remember, Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya --
best post so far to Brer Rabbit -- Blo!! The perfect house band for this thread or what -- all ears shortly
but ya, the good context of the word -- Smokey Robinson described The 4 Tops like that one time (History of Rock n Roll vid) -- talking about their harmonies etc, "those brothers could Blow!"
Flip side -- when that yawner Souther Hillman Furay Band album came out mid 70s or so, I thought, 'this blows'....1st crummy recording I ever heard w/Jim Gordon on it
