Awesome for a couple songs, but an album bores you?

One of mine is Solomon Burke.
Any time I hear any of his songs, doesn’t really matter which, I’m like “hell yeah!” But play a bunch back to back and it quickly tires on me.
I guess it comes down to homogeneity in the style or something.
I really really like Roy Buchanan, but his live albums can have the same effect. Any given song is awesome on its own. But listen to a string and it can sound all the same. However, I don’t have the same issue with Roy’s studio work.

A good blue grass band. I enjoy some of the first generation bands such as Flatt and Scruggs, Reno and Smiley, Stanley Brothers etc. But after 3 or 4 songs live or studio, I've had enough for a few days. But I can zero in on one song such as Cripple Creek and play it over and over for 20 minutes.
I like Roy too. But he is like J. J. Cale to me. After 4 songs I'm ready to switch the CD to another artist. Gary Moore is another and oddly Gary recorded one of Roy's songs The Messian Will Come. I can put in Eat a Peach though or Sergeant Peppers and I can do the entire album.

Hope this don’t offend. Bout anything from Alice n Chains. I’ve read a lot with Cantrell in guitar mags and respect the group but I can’t find it.

I think Tommy Stinson from The Replacements / Guns and Roses kicks butt. I have his solo records, his Bash and Pop and Perfect also. However, as is the case with Keith Richards solo, often, I just feel like the first 3 songs always kick ass and then by 6 songs in, the thrill is gone.
It's true of The Faces for me too. Great band with great moments but plenty of meh stuff also.

First record comes to mind is Tull, Thick As A Brick. First song is killer, then . . . after that , I don't hear anything.

That's pretty funny. Yeah, I get it.........there's only one song!
Mine? UFO's "Force It". First two tunes are the most hair raising great hard-hitting rock and roll imaginable, Let It Roll and Shoot Shoot followed by a GREAT pretty ballad. I'm glad they stacked those three up front because the entire rest of the record is all junk IMO.

Great thread. Have to think about it and see if I come up with anything.

This is on the money, and I like UFO alot, I saw them 3 times in the Paul Chapman years '81-'82? Recently, saw them with Saxon, funny same line up 35 yrs later, both bands still kick ass, think Mogg may be about ready to hang it up though. You know I think alot of bands suffered this syndrome, with UFO though, You take the 3 good songs off 5 or 6 records, Man they have always had a killer live set!.........
.Peace........joe

I understand this isn't exactly what this thread is about - but for me at this point my answer is "every studio album by every rock/jam band ever". I would be very hard pressed to tell you the last time I listened to any studio album by anybody from beginning to end. The only ones I do are usually jazz albums that have a "live in the studio" vibe to them. I'm all about live performance and especially the live improv - my favorite bands are the ABB, Grateful Dead, Gov't Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Phil Lesh & Friends, Widespread Panic, Black Crowes, Steve Kimock - etc. and I never listen to studio albums from beginning to end by any of those acts ever anymore - nor do I really ever even listen to studio tracks in general by those acts.
I will listen to studio albums from jazz artists like Scofield, Miles Davis, Coltrane, Frisell, etc - but in the rock and jam space I'm just not interested in listening to studio tracks, and for sure not a full studio album.

I have tons of releases (particularly my old LP collection) where there are strong tracks but not great albums end to end. UFO is a good call. That applies to most of their albums. It's also why their live album being basically a greatest hits of the 70s was so damn good.

Anything I've ever heard from Robert Randolph.
Including live.
