Austin City Limits

The last couple of years I've been setting my PVR for the show and I'm finally getting to watch some.
Last week I watched The Pretenders who I've seen a few times and always love, it was a great episode..... a few weeks ago I introduced myself to Chris Stapelton and loved it.
Tonight I watched an episode of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, I've seen him live a few years ago but I was way back in the theatre so couldn't quite capture his energy but the show captures it, he's quite a performer.... and Warren Ellis is quite a musician!
I'd love to hear other's favorite episodes.

Good post
SRV although I don't remember the year.
Loved the ABB episode with the Dickey/Warren duo.
Many others as well.

A Gem of a show. It's iconic actually. There are a few great shows I track for artists now. Bluegrass Underground, Soundstage, and Front And Center are among them. Such a treat at limes. Austin City Limits goes back decades. Stevie Ray had an hour episode from '89/'90? that eventually made it to DVD. It was from the In Step era covering most tunes. There was another split episode from '86ish? Where there was only a couple tunes. ACL had some priceless captures of certain artists eras, One that jumps out was a Billy Joe Shaver episode that featured his son Eddy before his passing. Eddy is playing Dickey Betts Strat he gave him. Tramp On Your Street is a song that Dickey loves and relates to and holds dear. While not the strongest episode and Eddy's a little reserved compared to his playing on Live At Olde Smith's Bar. It is special. Certain things stand out for some reason, There's a song that leaves an image of a Kris Kristofferson episode, It's about a couple and a castle. Great story song, TMI?, but it jumped in my head. Loads of quality artists, From Wiilie to Bonnie to the TTB and beyond. Hall Of Fame type list. Bluegrass Underground is on my venue bucket list just as much as Red Rocks. Soundstage recently had a nice Jason Isabell episode. Musical moments in time as relayed in the universal language.

I've been a fan for decades. No hype, no commercials, No B.S.
Just music, it doesn't get any better than this.

My most favorite tv show of all time! Seeing SRV finish off the 9th season in 1985 gave me hope that disco wasn't going to destroy music after all. there was real music being made after all. ICONIC isn't a BIG enough word to describe ACL. Wanna spend and little while just seeing who all have graced their stage? check this out:

Sarah Jarosz. Been a huge fan of hers after seeing her episode. Stunning natural talent.

I've never seen the show live or on TV; I have caught selected episodes via purchased DVDs or traded recordings or Youtube.
The two artists that I have seen on Austin City Limits through those means are Robert Plant and Wilco. Both have had great performances there.

Yes I saw the Billy Joe and Eddy Shaver Austin City show too. I liked Eddy's playing. And when Dickey gave him that old 1950s Strat, Dickey also gave Shaver a Gibson ES-335 that Duane Allman owned and played in the ABB just a few times. I remember a show in early 1970 that Duane played an ES-335 for much of the show and Dickey played a Strat.
I think after Eddy died Willie Nelson got Eddy's Strat which was his number one, and the ES-335, and Willie has them in his safe. But I read that 10 or more years ago. Could have changed by now.
