Just remembered Mylon Lefebvre and The Holy Smoke Doo Dah Band opening for Mountain also @ Cameron in 1970. High school sweetheart no longer accompanied me.

Blues Brothers
Caught them at the universal Amphitheater, maybe '77?
Sons Of Champlain
Saw them a couple of times at Winterland and once while walking with Gregg Allman back to his tour bus in San Diego, we had a chat about this band ... How he remembered them as well...
Vassar Clements
Saw Vassar on the Richard Betts tour in '74 at Winterland

Someone mentioned James Brown. Saw James, in fact a good friend of mine used to be his manager, and I happened to spend some time with him today.
I saw him a couple of times. Once he came out after the band had been playing the same tune for about ten minutes. Goes to the mic and says/sings? - "Blap" and walks away. I swear this went on for another ten minutes with him occasionally making some sort of noise.
Band is just smoking away and "Blap"
It was James Brown doing and imitation of Eddie Murphy doing James Brown.
We were a good 15 - 20 minutes in before he strung a few words together - " Blap Che Che yow Wha"
I still get the giggles thinking of that show. He came - he went - he screamed some shit - left came back. the entire f'n show.
I am not even sure if he could hear the band or just yelled random shit in the mic.
It was great though. Not sure what it was but it was great.

It was sort of like that when I saw James late 80s at the Cheshire Fairgrounds In NH - didn’t sing a note the whole show, instead the band did long instrumental jams w/James playing several instruments - a greatest hits show it was not, but it was a good show w/smoking funk playing - he did have a release of instrumental jams around then IIRC

Saw Vassar at MerleFest 2002
Have seen David Bromberg a bunch. A monster talent.

Great thread. First I ever "saw" was the lovin' spoonful. I met them outside Alumni Hall at Providence College. I was from the neighborhood and hangin' out there. Didn't go to the show, I had just turned 10.
Later, we had tons of bands play what was then the palace theater (now ppac) and the newly opened (1973) civic center. The kinks, pink Floyd, rod Stewart, Springsteen.
Then, even later, when I was mid-20's or so, I worked at the civic center, did dozens of shows; Cyndi lauper, ac/DC, Clapton, talking heads, man, tons of acts.
THEN...I quit there to work stagehands union which covered like 5 or 6 venues in the area.
The list of bands/musicians/actors I could put together! Mark Knopfler was cool. Eddie van Halen, not so much. Reba McIntire walked by me, stopped, and said, "Well hello there, handsome". Now that was cool. Met Ray Davies, very cool guy. Anthony Hopkins was cool too. Met him on the set of Meet Joe Black.

In line with thread title (sometimes I drift...)
The Cranberries, Lupo's. The guy who sang "Time of my life" from some movie soundtrack, Daytona Beach. I was walking by, heard music, went in, it was free. Kinda fuzzy on that one, I was hammered. The beach boys, cape cod. (Been talking about this topic over breakfast with my sweetheart the past hour or so, some hazy stuff from 30, 40 years ago. Laughing our asses off) 😛

I have seen a bunch of the blues artists that got mentioned. Johnny Lee Hooker, Luther Allison, Albert Collins, a.o.

NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Chumbawamba, Hanson (actually surprisingly good), 98 degrees, J-Lo, Jessica Simpson, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, O-Town, Kelly Clarkson, Ashanti, Destiny's Child, Hillary Duff, Nick Lachey, Sean Paul, Ashlee Simpson, Nelly Furtado, Rihanna, The Pussycat Dolls, Jonas Brothers, One Republic....
I dont know what to say
Well, you did ask. Now I’m shamed for life. LOL. In all honesty it was quality time spent with my girls so all good.

Saw David many times
Aztec 2 Step in the late 70s and much to my surprise 5-10 years ago warming up for Jonathan Edwards

. . . shamed for life. LOL
You are forgiven my son. For penance say ten Hail Hail Rock and Rolls and go to a brick and mortar record store and purchase physical media.

Had many opportunities in early 70's to attend shows at the Warehouse in New Orleans.
Wishbone Ash was big there as was Black Oak Arkansas.
RObslob... I too had the opportunity to see the original Captain Beyond there live in prob 72. Opened for BOA I Believe. They played the entire first album and blew the place out. THey were tremendous and a shame did not sustain. Rod Evans was singer with Rhino and Lee Dorman from Iron Butterfly and Bobby Caldwell was drummer/ percussion. I still listen to album one to this day!

Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee...early 70's

Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee...early 70's

They were a constant in Montreal at a club called The Rising Sun. I was very young when I started going there. But it was a different era and they let me hang out at the bar and watch all the bands. I started to play a bit here and there at sound checks and everyone got a laugh at the young white kid playing the blues. Sometimes they let me stay in the back if busy but I could still hear and see.
I mentioned in another thread that I play in a group with people with various illnesses. One of them is a guy with dementia but he can play the harmonica absolutely out of this world. He was a semi-famous painter in the 70s but played the blues all the time.
He used to jam with Sonny and Brownie and all the blues players that flowed in and out of Montreal.
If you take a look at their concert dates - you will laugh at how often it is The Rising Sun - lol
And I don't think most dates are even listed. I saw a lot of of legendary musicians at that club and absorbed it all. I played it later in life and it was a return home but it had changed over time. But in it's prime it was a draw for all the top blues/jazz musicians.
Stranger Blues - Sonny Terry w Brownie McGhee 1967
Sonny/Brownie Pt 1 - Kicks off with an awesome Rising Sun.

Not a concert but being close to greatness. As a kid, my parents took me to the Bahamas for vacation. We were eating in a small restaurant. The only other people eating there were The Beatles. Sadly I was way too young to know and/or care. Mom was impressed with how polite the Beatles and their crew were.
A former girlfriend of mine once told me that she met The Beatles in the Bahamas when they were filming scenes from the movie "Help!" She said that her dad had connections of some sort and was able to actually get her into their trailer while they were taking a break from filming. She said they were all incredibly nice to her during her visit with them but John was tired and resting on a couch and didn't say much. I'm guessing it must've been around the same time you were there with your parents?
Anyway, as for bands others have mentioned in this thread, which I have also seen...
Screaming Trees
Bert Jansch
Tom Waits
Rage Against the Machine
Ice-T
John Lee Hooker
X (seven times and every lineup they've had)
Jefferson Airplane
The Buzzcocks (six times)
Albert King
Gwar
Iggy Pop (twice)
Chumbawamba
Asleep at the Wheel
The Cranberries (saw them at a festival when they first started getting noticed. listened to 3 or 4 songs, didn't care much for their sound, and left to check out another band.)
Traffic
Flaming Lips
The Tubes
The Who
Stevie Ray Vaughan (five times)
Pink Floyd (three times)
Talking Heads (twice)
King Crimson (three times)
Frank Zappa (twice)I'll return to this thread and post some that I've seen that haven't been mentioned yet, when I have a bit more time.

That was the exact time. The Beatles had not fully cracked yet so they were not what they would become. My Dad had no idea and my Mom had some idea. We were there before them and they just walked in with their entourage. Love to say that I remember a moment but - nothing. My parents didn't even engage them in conversation. The Beatles talked to them lol. My parents were older and the type to give people privacy which they likely appreciated. Mom just always said they were polite. When Dad was 50 - he told us he just nodded and said hello. When Dad was 85 and told the story - He became lifelong friends and wrote many of their songs with them. About the same as fishing tales.
Stuff like that happened all the time to my Dad. I was visiting him in Florida and he goes in the store to pick up a few things. I make another stop and then go to pick him up. Dad comes walking out of the store with Shaq. Just strolling along as if nothing is new - just Dad and Shaq shopping together.
WTF? My Dad was a pretty big guy but next to Shaq everyone looks small. They chat away for a minute. Dad laughs and gets him to wave. He asks my dad if he should say hi and my Dad says " No Way. It will piss my son off forever if I say goodbye and walk away".
I watch them both laugh and Shaq pats my Dad and they go separate ways. Dad loved telling that story. They actually shopped at the same place and saw each other often.
Dad knew Andre The Giant long before I was born. When I was about 5, I got to meet him and I was terrified. So what does Dad do to calm me? He tells me that The Giant eats kids who are bad and that is why he is so big.
Dad was fun but there is not enough money to pay for all the therapy needed as a result.
