I haven't seen any of those...but my dad told me about the time he took a guitar lesson from Rev. Gary Davis! My dad grew up in NY and saw a ton of music (he took a class in music at NYU and the instructor just brought in music friends to play music. He saw Paul Yarrow premier a new song called Puff the Magic Dragon!)
Anyhow, he spent about a week's salary on the guitar lesson and he said Davis kept yelling at him, telling him he was doing it wrong, do it this way, etc. But he said he learned stuff he still uses and wishes their was tape equipment, as he forgot a ton, but it was an hour and a half lesson and was unbelievable!!

Saw the Doors summer 1972 at Boston Common on their Other Voices tour & despite no Jim Morrison the crowd went home Very Happy - a memorable night - a crowd atmosphere (read: baked 😉 ) unlike hardly any other show I went to

Too many times. LOL

Bands I was in played all the same places as them. To be honest, they put less bodies in the bars than most of the other bands in Montreal.

Possibly a bit a head of their genre and maybe some just didn't get it.

Have many friends that are buddies with them. Met them long ago when we were all young.

Plasmatics or Wendy O. Williams (i love W.OW.)

It is hard to describe how bad they were. Comical but bad.

Listening certainly required a high degree of tolerance - that "Killing Technology" record was brutal.

Lol absolutely horrifically bad. Yet for me it was love at first sledgehammer. The school bus thru wall of TVs in the desert made a disciple of me.

Good god did you see any of the solo stuff she did with the guy from Kiss? Even worse than Plasmatics. Perfect parody of metal - better than Spinal Tap.

Gwar - lol !

Ok, all this talk of freakazoid bands reminded me I recently saw Metalachi - a heavy metal mexican mariachi group. Totally bizarre. Thing is they were actually pretty good, had this beautiful gypsy girl violin player who tore up the lead solos. Not all metal, but classic hard rock done up blazin mariachi. Funny as hell, check em out if they come around, it's a lot of fun.

I've seen Fairport Convention - they're still touring. Perhaps the poster had a particular version in mind.

Ditto Loreena McKennit.

Might have seen McCoy Tyner - will have to check tickets.

I watched McCoy Tyner from outside the Keystone Corner Jazz club in SF. It was sold out so I just stood outside and I could see him through the door. I saw Stephen Grossman open for some blues act at the Keystone Palo Alto late 70's early 80's time frame

Great thread. Thanks! Lots of great bands/artists posted that I wished I'd seen especially what I know and like now.

I saw The Dickies 3 times. The Professionals with Steve Jones cranking his guitar. Also Iggy Pop. Not an Iggy guy but the show was fun.

I saw the New Colony Six at the Minnesota State Fair in August, 1970, the first nationally-known rock band that I saw live. They had a soft-rock hit, "I Will Always Think About You", but as a live band they rocked hard -- no similarity between their performance and their hit. They did "Ob-Li-Di, Ob-Li-Da" and gave the Beatles a run for their money.

The next major rock band I saw was the Allman Brothers Band on March 25 at The College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. What a step up...

I saw Wendy O. with the Plastmatics. Old rock club 'Beggars Banquet' in Queens, N.Y.
Wendy had band-aids over her nipples. Smashed on stage an auto wreck with a sledge hammer and later used a chain-saw.
What a smokey mess of a spectacle. 😮

Sam and Dave opening for Dionne Warwick at Cameron Indoor Stadium Duke Univ. Went w/ high school sweetheart sometime 1969.
Also think Captain Beyond was on the bill at an all day show @ Charlotte Memorial Stadium in 1971. It was largely a Capricorn show w/ them, Marshall Tucker Band, maybe Grinderswitch, Brownsville Station & of course ABB. It was a long day a long time ago so may have added/deleted unintentionally.
I suspect this one will be overiidden but how about Pacific Gas and Electric @ Love Valley.
