Are you a fan of types of music that nobody else here knows about?

I've seen similar threads re fringe musical tastes, but the answers are usually things like punk rock or kinds of music that at least someone else here enjoys. The question here is: What music are you a fan of that you are pretty sure NOBODY else here is aware of?
I have a couple good ones:
Zamrock - psychedelic rock from Zambia, early 1970's, "Lazy Bones" by Witch great record to start with if you're interested.
Nigerian rock early mid 70s: Blo - African psychedelic funk-rock, 1975, band formed from the ashes of Ginger Baker's Salt, after Baker left Nigeria. Amazing. Blo: Chapters and Phases: The Complete Albums, 1973-1975
"Chant to Mother Earth" :
Malian Kora music: Toumani and Sidiki Diabate, unbelievable, these cats were playing this music since before Europeans ever heard of stringed instruments! 70 generations! That takes us back to around stringed instruments were invented. Clip from Glastonbury2014:
Vietnamese pop from the late 70's - 90's. Favorites are Nhu Quynh and Ngoc Lan. Don't really expect anyone else to be interested, I just love Vietnam, beautiful place and people

You mean stuff like Southern Rock?
Just kidding.
What an interesting thread. I think my musical tastes are varied but I've never heard of the music you introduced Brother Rabbit. I'll have to give it a listen.
I guess the most rarified music I listen to is Klezmer but I'm sure plenty of folks on this forum are familiar with that style of music.
I'll be watching this thread develop. Good topic!

People know about rap, but it gets trashed a lot around here.
I am huge fan of mid-90's to early 2000's rap. I consider guys like 2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas and OutKast among my favorite artists in any genre. And beyond those guys, there are great albums by lesser artists like DMX's first two albums, 50 Cent's first album, and Game's first two albums that I consider to be among my favorite albums of all time.
And there are a lot of really bad rap concerts but seeing Jay-Z in January 2009 in Philly, backed by a full band (keys, bass, guitar, two drummers, probably 5-piece horn section) was one of my Top 5 concerts ever. Dude is turning into a caricature of himself these days, but that show was incredible. He was all business and a true professional artist, which is more than I can say about a lot of rock acts that I see.

yes......my music! 😉
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

yes......my music!
ha. good one!

well hmmm classical masters like: Stravinsky, Wagner, Mozart, Bach, Elgar, Vivaldi and Ponchielli...

My wife likes "opera" . I don't get it.

Homemade instruments, overdriven thumb pianos, a headbanger beat.
Konono No 1:
from Kinshasa. Puttin' a smile on your face from the Congo.

My wife likes "opera" . I don't get it.
OPERA wow its amazing... 😉

Does Anyone here enjoy the sweetsounds of the Oboe? my Uncle, (moms Bro) is arguablly of course, the worlds primier and most renowned Oboeist of the last 50 years, he lives in NYC and maybe some the east coast Folks have heard of him, has prformed solo at Carnegie many, many times as well as taught and performed in every corner of the earth, his name is Humbert Lucarelli, and by the way he is just a wonderful, wonderful human being!!!!............Peace......joe

None that I'd admit to here, no... 😛

Champeta music from the coastal areas of Columbia......

My kids still howl with disapproval (as well as challenging my sexuality) when "Sweeney Todd" and other Sondheim musicals turn up on my CD changer

Tuned Flatulence. Performing requires intense sphincter control and the ability to consume mass quantities of popcorn, legumes, beer and/or Mexican staples. Performances typically don't last long, as the audience runs out of the venue quicker than an Allman Brothers audience at the onset of JaMuBa (or whatever the hell it's called). But I once saw a guy fart the Star Spangled Banner and could not help but be impressed. This is not the type of talent that 4 years at Julliard can give you. "Are the players good?", you ask. Why no. They stink!

There are folks here that complain about Rolling Stone Magazine reporting on any music made after 1975 and applauding them when they feature someone over 55 on the cover.
This place is like the saying that goes something like around here we like two types of music country and western.

Rusty,
"tuned flatulence "; there was a guy in France about 120 years ago called " La Petomine "or something similar who had a career on stage doing just that.
On topic; I like orchestral disco done by session musicians in the 70's like MFSB and the Salsoul Orchestra.

House music,disco,Indian music, African music
So glad to be able to get so much pleasure from different types of music, wish I could dig classical and opera but it hasn't happened yet,who knows?

this is probably known but Zydeco & variations thereof; that style & just basic 'kitchen music'

I like some stoner metal type stuff. Have a friend who is into all kinds of metal and he frequently is turning me on to stuff. Clutch, Alabama Thunderpussy, Karma to Burn, Graveyard are probably some of the best bands he has got me into. Actually Clutch and Graveyard are touring this spring with Mastodon which is a pretty tremendous lineup! But this is far from my go to music.
