Archive Release Suggestions

Since it Gregg's manager indicated they are FINALLY opening up the vault a bit, these are some of my votes for vault releases:
Gregg Allman & Friends 1/25/2005 BB Kings NYC - This is the lineup with Robbin Ford. The Oceans Awash The Gunwale from this show is special. I've heard a few performances of this song but this one just works perfectly. The R&B Statesboro Blues from this show also just works better than others I have heard. They had it this night.
Gregg Allman & The Alabama Allstars 10/8/1994 - Great recording out there. Betting Johnny Sandlin has an even better one. The Slip Away is my absolute far and away favorite performance of this song. SO good. As is the Can't Trun You Loose. Whole show is great.
7/3/1992 and 7/4/1992 Red Rocks - I believe these show were radio broadcast. They are both monster shows and each deserves to be released. Highlights: DWYNM, Liz Reed and Get On With Your Life from 7/3, True Gravity and Dreams from 7/4 and the Black Hearted Women, Nobody Knows and Pony Boy from both nights are all great. Those are just the highlights, both shows a top notch. With radio recordings out there I would think they could clean them up and make for a more than respectable release.

1. Best of the Beacon 1998: include High Falls, Hide Away, I'm Not Cryin, Dimples and others.
2. 3/21/05: night before the Big House Benefit at the Beacon. A holy grail ABB show to me. Heavy on Chuck Leavell, plus Juke Horns, some uniqueness to this show.
3. 1979 - The best show from that tour.
3. Piepdream release for this fan - A best of Chuck Leavell 2001-20143 with the band. There is enough for a double CD release....they always shined with Chuck as a guest.
4. MTV Unplugged as a bonus to one of the releases
And have to agree with Axeman on the his two Gregg solo choices. I'd add a Gregg show from late 1982 to that wishlist. The 1982 Gregg stuff on youtube is great.

Allman Brothers Band 12-31-1973

3/11/98. Jack's take on that evenings Blue Sky and Nobody Knows are great. Dickey's on AWTNM is great. I wore that analog cassette out. Probably my most played ABB on tape.
The 3/14/98 webcast would be a nice video release along with the 9/19/98 PPV.
3/26/99. Any of these from 7/30/00, 8/6/00, 9/22, 23, & 24/00. 3/16/01. The Beach to Peach run was great and I thought night 2 in Raleigh 8/3/01 was a nice one. A great LMBAH, Jessica, Hot 'Lanta, a Franklin's Tower with like 11 people on stage(all of Phil's band), and a great Dreams.
Glad the Fillmore West From January '71 with Hot Tuna will see a release. I'd heard it had been ready since the last archive was released in 2007 but was vetoed by a member.

I like Hotlanta's idea for a '79 show

5/2/70 w horns and Thom Doucette
9/7/92
A show from spring May 1996
3/20/98
Beacon 2001 and 2005

Anything and everything with Duane. I've heard (friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend) that the entire Atlanta Pop Festival exists on two DVDs. Supposedly. That would be a treasure.
Billastro

Lots of good suggestions already. 9/7/92 is a fantastic show and different enough from the recent '92 Beacon release that it isn't redundant.
There definitely needs to be a '96 show release with one of those massive versions of True Gravity. I know the Red Rocks show well, but there could be other better examples I haven't heard.
9/23/2000 Raleigh is widely considered the best show with Jimmy Herring and is worthy of an official release.
Last but not least, the 5/17/05 NOLA show that many people said was the best Warren/Derek show ever has never once circulated. No audience recording allowed at the show, no tapers, so the only way we are going to hear this legendary show is through an official soundboard release.

Gregg Allman Band with Jack Pearson.

I'd llike to see a release of the solo album that Duane was working on before the formation of the ABB. Along with the eight songs he recorded in Muscle Shoals, I've read there could be alternate versions and jam sessions recorded in early 1969.

unfortunately a grey area release of the MTV Unplugged session has been put out in Europe. The band won't be seeing any cash from the sales of this disc, unless they put out a full remastered version on their own label.

I think it's confirmed that there is a lot of Atlanta Pop footage. The problem is that there must be a lot of promoters and companies and bands with claims on the rights and any money that comes from releasing it and that has to be worked out somehow before it can be released.

Some of those tracks wound up on Johnny Jenkins' great album Ton-Ton Macoute! Duane is on half the album and Berry and Jaimoe and Butch are on a couple of songs each. Jaimoe is on timables and not a drum kit, but I Walk on Gilded Splinters and Voodoo in You must be the first times Butch and Jaimoe recorded together. Johnny Sandlin did the rest of the drumming. I have no idea if there are songs that didn't get released, but if there are, or studio jams, that would be very cool.

8/1/96 from the Wisconsin State Fair is another one. I haven't heard it in forever, but it's a contender.

That was my first show! Haven't heard it since then, it was a monster as I recall. I listen to Reno 1996 quite often (though it's minus Jaimoe), Woody's "Mountain Jam" solo in the middle of "True Gravity" is sublime.

If anything is put together from the Instant Live recordings, one thing absolutely, positively must be included -- the ABB version of Layla from Charlotte, N.C., on 8-9-2003. I've heard the ABB do this song several times and, of course, Derek with Clapton, but Derek's slide work on this 2003 version is simply incredible.

Last but not least, the 5/17/05 NOLA show--that's on my list too...as a matter of fact it's the ONLY one on my list! I finally gave up bothering people about releasing this but that was a pretty amazing night. got my fingers crossed! patrick

Anything and everything with Duane.
Please
1979 - The best show from that tour.
Also a top show from the '75 tour

Rob, since you had an inside with the band, do you know what all was recorded over the years? Do you know how much archival audio and video they might have?

Allman Brothers Band 12-31-1973
Cow Palace? The Cow Palace show was great.

My second ABB show ever was the following night

I'm wearing this one out as a suggestion, but 3/25/01 was incredibly hot and it was the show where I think a lot of us were convinced this band could work post Dickey
There is a european tour show from I think '80 that has a long, long Pegasus. That might be worth having
One of the Fox Theatre shows from '98 with Jack
6-5-74 Providence
As someone mentioned, the Gregg and the Southern Soul All Stars from the Birmingham Jam '94
Anything from Gregg's solo tours with Robbin Ford and Willie Weeks in the band
I'd also like to see a compilation of songs that have only been released on Instant Live.
How about this for a setlist-would need to be sequenced properly
Bag End
Egypt
Gilded Splinters
Blind Willie McTell
Spots of Time
Desdemona with Chuck sitting in
Good Morning Little Schoolgirl with Hubert Sumlin sitting in (Beacon 05)
Night they Drove Old Dixie Down
No One to Run With (Fox )
Highway 61 Revisited-(Wanee 06)
Just Ain't Easy (Beacon 05)
Acoustic set
These Days
Rain
Delta Blue

I have 2
1) July 26, 1996
2) March 21, 1997

Hopefully they have some pre-09 Beacon shows before they were allowed to release Instant Live show.

The entire Jimi Hendrix Atlanta Pop show has been released on DVD and it is incredible. The audio and video quality are great, so if the ABB footage is of similar quality it would be well worth an official release.
I think the owners of the footage had dreams of a big Woodstock type movie about the whole festival, but they must have given up that dream when they sold the Hendrix footage. Maybe the ABB is next?
"Rob, since you had an inside with the band, do you know what all was recorded over the years?"
I can really only speak for the time I was with HTN, but I'm pretty sure the band recorded every show. As for video, I really don't think that was a point of emphasis. But I think they have audio of pretty much every recent show.

I floated this same idea before. Part of my frustration about the fact that a 2nd ABB studio album with Derek and Warren never happened is that the tunes were there. There was a solid album to be had among the choices you suggested.
I would add the Charlotte 10/4/09 Charlotte versions of No One To Run With and Rocking Horse. The band added distinct jams to both of those tunes that are not in any officially released version, and those jams are some of my favorite music the Derek/Warren lineup ever created.

I would like to see stuff from the different eras. I have so much of the most recent incarnation of the band from the Instant Live, they all kind of of run together except for a few. This is just my opinion, but sometimes getting releases of the same sets/eras ,no matter what band/group is, seems to lose its luster.
More of The Dickey/Warren era, definitely more Jack stuff too.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

good points on the ILs, they did a great job w/that (2004 Great Woods>next night NH ) -- the Warren/Woody era is well covered w/Evening With, 2nd Set, Play All Night -- DAT/boards of 1994 shows like May Warfield Theatre SF, Great Woods post Woodstock show, many others from this era would/do sound virtually as good
the 1st lineup of this era w/Johnny Neel did some cool stuff too & mayb an archive release from then (Oct. 89 Orpheum? 😛 )
same Jack, & for that matter, an archive release of just Jack Pearson's sit ins over the years, I'd be 1st in line for -- he's great & I love the ABB

Add the song Dusk till dawn.

7/15/1995 Red Rocks
Easily one of the best shows from the Warren Woody lineup. The jam after What's Done Is Done is Dickey at his best. My favorite performance. Same Thing has a Layla jam at the end. Whole show is very well played. Love to have a good recording as I have only a passable audience

I'd love to have 3/18/97
One of the few shows with High Falls, Jessica, Blue Sky & Ramblin' Man.
I know I Oughta Leave is s great blues shuffle right down Butch's and Gregg's alley.
Near the end of the Warren & Woody era,
1. Don't Want You No More
2. It's Not My Cross To Bear
3. Trouble No More
4. Ramblin' Man
5. Good Clean Fun
6. Don't Keep Me Wonderin'
7. Seven Turns
8. Stand Back
9. Jessica
Set II:
10. You Don't Love Me
11. I Know I Oughta Leave
12. Blue Sky
13. Stormy Monday
14. End Of The Line
15. No One To Run With
16. High Falls
17. One Way Out
Encore:
18. Southbound
19. Whipping Post
5/5/96 at the Louisville Palace was awesome
. Don't Want You No More
2. It's Not My Cross To Bear
3. Ain't Wastin' Time No More
4. Blue Sky
5. Good Clean Fun
6. Worried Down With The Blues
7. Tombstone Eyes
8. Stand Back
9. True Gravity
10. I Know I Oughta Leave

12. Change My Way of Living
13. Stormy Monday
14. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
15. End Of The Line
16. No One To Run With
17. Back Where It All Begins
Any Dickey and Jack show with High Falls is going to be worth it just for that one
3/17/01 Derek and Warren
Don't Keep Me Wonderin'
2. All Night Train
3. The High Cost Of Low Living
4. Hoochie Coochie Man
5. Soulshine
6. Loaded Dice
7. Jessica
Set II:
8. Midnight Rider
9. Who to Believe
10. The Same Thing
w/Danny Lewis, keyboards
11. Gambler's Roll
12. Rocking Horse
13. Done Somebody Wrong
14. High Falls
15. One Way Out
Encore:
16. Statesboro Blues
17. Whipping Post
w/Warren Haynes on all songs
The 94 San Franciso run was great. As was the first week of May 96.
Also something with Rave On and J J's Alley
[Edited on 6/11/2017 by CB]

I want to add 9/3/96 Fillmore West, SF, CA just for the Steve Kimock sit in(as the only others are already documented on IL's, a few from '07 and one from '13). Alvin Youngblood Hart and Duane Betts do too. Dickey was AWOL as he'd abandoned the band to go play golf and then fly back to FL. Late era Warren and Woody show and not long before the end of line with that lineup.
