I've been playing their debut cd quite a bit the last few weeks (been years since I played it). Great band that basically disappeared real quick here in the states. As far as I know, their only U.S. west coast gig was at UCLA's Ackerman Union.

The cd has a lot of kick to it. Here it is in care of Youtube. Go for it! Grin

Abso-freakin-lutely!

I've long called them the greatest band that never was. Their story is pretty wild. Got deep into the Madchester sound at the time, and while other bands such as the Happy Mondays might have had more commercial success, the Roses are the cornerstone of it all.

The debut has to rank up there with the greatest debuts of all time. Track for track.

The way they literally got screwed out of a career is a fascinating story. Here's a BBC documentary that tells the whole story:

The Madchester scene ended up being so incredibly influential. The Stone Roses influenced so many other Manchester bands, for instance the Inspiral Carpets. Liam Gallagher was a roadie, so maybe, no Roses, no Oasis? Fun to think like that.

Between The Stone Roses and The Charlatans, those two bands have been active parts of my personal playlist for 30 years now. Always great to see other fans! Grin

Right on Hawk! "I've long called them the greatest band that never was." Can't be said any better.
