I'm flying into New Orleans tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knows all the good spots to check out the best music this city has to offer. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you!! Places for food couldn't hurt either

My daughter goes to school there; I've been there a few times. Copy of an email I recently sent to a friend if it helps

Live Music Venues (Inexpensive) that she has been to and are popular. Burbon street has tons of music bars but they are very amateurish

and other stuff

Preservation Hall is either a music museum or musaleum depending on how you look at it - but obviously the last word on DIxieland

List of Jazz Brunches - "Court of Two Sisters" is highly touted; but you probably could do more youthful/less expensive

We've been to a lot of the Traditional/Fancy restaurants. If you are going to splurge Emeril's restaurant NOLA in the French Quarter had excelle nt food - more of a Soho feel than an old folks feel - and was funkier.

In the French Market is a little seafood stand (and an oyster bar right across from it) that has great food and is relatively inexpensive. Hopefully Crawfish in season but probably too early)

Everyone gets coffee/bignets in Cafe Dumond. If you like it fine - more of a must see/toursist trap if you don't

the next place i haven't eaten at but is on my to do list. A little bit less expensive/less fancy that the top tier of restaurants. supposedly excellent

and for Jazz in a fancier club (more expensive but just one drink is I believe all you need to get) for a nightcap in a more formal setting

hope that covers some bases
