Any Gregg Tour Reviews (recent) ????

Anyone seen Gregg on recent tour? Seems quiet here on reviews. Spokane WA show tomorrow. Missoula MT last night.

I heard he is singing real strong, setlist are pretty much the same ones over .

I haven't seen him on the summer tour, but I saw him at Wanee and thought he was the highlight of the weekend. His band sounds great. His set lists are a little more Allman Bros-heavy than they used to be, but he's putting on a great show.

Gregg show in Spokane: It was a fine show in many ways. Regular or frequent GA or ABB attendees could setlist complain, I get it. After 6 year drought of hearing him sing live, I went with a different perspective, wanting some chestnuts. Did not get a GA style Whipping Post which we did want. Stormy Monday was it's replacement I guess. Points of note for me were the tight as nails three horns (excellent add). The addition of the great Marc on percussion. Scott C was really very enjoyable on guitar. He is a class player and fits the genre well. Band all in all was typical Gregg: he can pick and choose crack musicians expertly, and have them playing and sounding like they have been together years. These Days was my Thank You Lord song. Nice. Swampy Rider was needed and received Gregg himself: he hit the note vocally. Perfect singing and intonation, a true singer still hitting the note. Better voice than a few years ago, IMO. He looked better than a few years ago, when after surgery he looked to me, scarey and near death. He looks good, he sounded great, he looks frail is how I would say. What I got is that he is for the music and the road. He has no choice, he is wired to give music. He will be on the road to the end. BB King and others before. He would be better taking the money and living well on some acres and being kind to his body and soul. Not wired that way. The man is giving his life for the music, he can play whatever setlist he wants.

Thank you for the nice review. I'm really looking forward to seeing Gregg and Jaimoe in Portland at the Waterfront Blues Fest on Thursday!! It's been 6 long years since they've been to Oregon. Anyone else here going to Portland? How 'bout Bend tonight?

I'm seeing him Friday in Woodinville, Washington...... I can't wait!

Really nice post and a perspective that I can identify with. For some of the criticism that has been lobbed at Gregg on this site re: setlists, etc., I think your post reflects a nice viewpoint...well stated.
Your lines below sum it up quite well. Thanks for the post.

I just got back from the Portland Waterfront Blues Fest. It was a blast, and I loved Jaimoe's Jasssz Band and Gregg's new band as well. And Devon absolutely killed it on guitar! The encore was "One Way Out" with Devon sitting in. That guy is scarey on that Les Paul! It was also great fun when Jaimoe sat in for "Don't Want You Know More/JAMCTB". Gregg's band is his 'pride and joy' and he seemed eager to get out from behind the organ and play guitar. "Love Like Kerosene" is a really cool song. The man still has an incredible voice. "These Days" was sweet. And Mark Q really got down on percussion! On the acoustic stage, I also got to see a bluesman from Mississippi named Jimmy "Duck" Holmes. His version of "Hard Time Killing Floor" sent chills up and down my spine.
After the killer encore with Gregg and Devon, everyone kept chanting "Come back Gregg" and "Come back soon"- I sure hope they all do.

I agree, REALLY nice post by bird72. And for all you Northern California types: The Sonoma Music Festival is in October. A three day Festival including Chicago, Ringo Starr and Todd Rundgren. But Sunday 10/4 to me is the day to go: The Doobie Brothers w/ Michael McDonald, Gregg Allman & Friends, Edgar Winter, Tommy Castro. www.sonomamusicfestival.com
A general admission ticket for Sunday runs $89.
