My daughter thinks she wants electronic drums for Christmas. I know nothing about them. I play Piano & Guitar and not very well at that.

Two very different set ups I understand and a big difference in price. Of course I like the cheap one but not just because it is less money. They both can be played through headphones which I like a lot! The first one MUST have headphones or some type of amplified speaker. The small one does have speakers but can also be run through headphones or an amp/speaker. Of course she likes the fact that the first one is set up more like an actual drum set. I like that too but I also realize that as a beginner who doesn't have a ton of space that smaller and portable might be better.
ANY help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can't spend anymore than the first one and am leaning towards the table top version or something like it for a number of reasons.
It is more portable and takes up less space.
I don't know how far this will go. She is very musically inclined but doesn't do well with lessons. She is pretty much self taught on the piano but didn't do well at all with piano lessons.
This great community is the best place I know to ask for guidance. I need to pull the trigger pretty quick but thought I would reach out for help first. Thank you a bunch in advance for any suggestions.

does she play yet?
If not, I would start with a simple drum pad and learn the basics. If she likes it, go from there.
I wouldn't get the "table top". I've seen them and played on them and it isn't really like drumming.
I have an "acoustic" set and and electric set - I love the electric set - much more "neighbor friendly"
Electronic drums are crap (IMHO) although I understand the appeal if one lives in an apartment or something like that. Stormy had a great idea regarding a practice pad or pads and have your daughter learn the rudiments. I also recommend marching band at school, if available. The reading of music (as well as theory) will benefit your daughter's math skills. Lessons can be costly, but there are tons of drummers on Youtube demonstrating lots of stuff for free. It is cool to see kids getting into music as something more than just a listen. Hope the best for you and your daughter.
She is 14. Never played drums nor any training. She has had a few piano lessons and didn't like it much. She loves to play the piano and is pretty darn good. She just didn't do well with the lessons.
She got a set of drum sticks and has been beating them on anything she can find. I just can't bring myself to get her real drums until she has learned to play a little because I'm an old fart now and the noise would drive insane. I know, that's just wrong but it is true.

As a longtime "self-taught" wooden set drummer I second the emotion away from the table top. Especially for the teacher-averse, it just won't have the feel.
Encourage learning the rudiments and youtubing"lessons," but for anyone with aptitude drumming is so much fun!
