There's a lot of great bands out there...some reasonably priced..& others not these days. Some people don't have any issue paying whatever is asked just to 'get into a show' & some have a definite limit. I love music & love to see certain shows but definitely have a limit on what I would pay for 'any band'. I can generally get good seats for any show I want to see within the price I've set if I feel like going. This is for others who may have found ways see shows reasonably either in 'protest' of astronomical prices' or for personal finance reasons. I'm sure some have some inventive ways to see these shows. I'd love to hear some of these methods.

These days I prefer my music the same way as my food.
Local, organic, and sustainable.

Check out Goldstar.com They offer discount tickets for all sorts of entertainment across the country. My favorite venue in NYC (The Iridium) offers half price tickets for many (but not all) of their shows. I've seen many great shows there this past year for about $17 per show. Just to name a few: Sonny Landreth, Robert Randolph, Oz Noy with Oteil Burbridge, John Hammond, Mike Farris, Samantha Fish, Savoy Brown, Coco Montoya. You have to spend $15 at the venue. Still a great price........

Since I no longer reside in Manhattan, It's a 50 dollar bill to the trainman.
This is my next one. I go by 10's. Less than 10 miles from our house.
10 bucks for the ticket.

Last night I saw Berry Oakley Jr, Devon Allman, Bobby Schneck Jr., Anthony Nanney, and Steve Duerst for $49.00 w/dinner included!
Low dough show, with excellent musicians. Cool

Yeah, that one! 😉 Thanks for the post.
Even though the last song jam with Berry was fun, (and sonically better live 😛 ) Devon's set was blistering.
I thought this tune off of Ragged & Dirty was the highlight last night.

I've got a ticket for a legend, Dick Dale, 12/19 at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz. It cost me a big $25. With my current financial situation, that's about my limit these days. But that's OK. I can see TONS of great musicians here in the Bay area, usually $10 or less.

Over the years I've managed to never pay more than $150 for a seat & that was extreme & very rare! (these were ABB seats of course and 1st 2 rows only both times)

I've gotten into Stones shows for under $100 for $350 tickets just before showtime, the people got their tickets for free & were happy to sell them. I've found that there's generally people arriving with extra tickets & happy to sell them just before the show (particularly the heavily hyped shows). It seems the scalpers know this & generally offer a lot less $ to people then sell it for a large profit,(supply & demand)

Another example of last minute,I picked up 2 tickets to Prince once for $75 each...they had been selling his boxoffice tickets for $170 for cheapest seats which we refused to pay,$850 for VIP next to stage, scalpers selling $800 & up. I got the 2-$75 tics, which were listed at $170 each then found out about free upgrades they were giving at Gate 3,so I upgraded to (unknown to me) front row VIP seats complete with VIP passes & paraphrenalia. We were so close we could touch him. I ended up going back outside & giving the other 2 tics away which I still had. Deep Purple,Santana front row seats, etc.Sometimes you can get cheap tickets from a scalper,as long as you're friendly towards them. I've only bought a couple of times from scalpers, both times less price.
I also never tell any of the people sitting with us how much we paid as I've found a lot of people are already a bit put off by the cost of the seats they paid for months earlier.

I'd like to hear any other ideas or places to get big shows for reasonable cost.

yeh,blues & jazz shows are still cheap for sur...I've seen 4 of 6 of those bands-Hot Tuna,Mule,etc

Another reasonable avenue I found are 'Festivals' such as Peachfest for $99 (have to hand it to ABB for putting on that resonable fest) ABB-2 nights,Annastasio-2 nights,Taj,Mule,TTB,etc.
Sunshine Fest $50 for a jam packed day of TTB,Stanley Clarke,Hot Tuna,Galactic,etc
Uproar -2 days,$90 (Korn,Godsmack,Avenged 7fold,3Days Grace, etc) Rockfest $60-(Alice Cooper,Korn,M Manson,Anthrax, etc, etc) to name just a few I've been to, so there are still bargains or just normal-priced shows out there where you can see top tiered talent!!
