This was the first July since I found this site that Watkins Glen was kind of forgotten on July 27. Kind of depressing. Your article and video were great! Took me back to one of the best times I ever had.

Welcome. That's just an excerpt... longer story in a one-shot Dead magazine I edited and mostly wrote... it will be out in October, I think... will let you know.

Thanks for the article.

Just one thing, the yellow poster (that says "noon til ?") is completely bogus, and doesn't belong in your fine article. It was created in the 80s to exploit the importance of Watkins Glen and confuse unsuspecting fans. Only the first poster is genuine

I have a few really cool crowd shots and will swap one in... I did that quickly.. one of the amazing things is there are not a lot of pro shots at WG... wild by today's standards... Joe Sia was there and has some amazing backstage shots... sharing one today on my FB page and will try to get a few others out there...

Cool video! Lesh is wearing an Eat a Peach shirt. I always thought that there was some rift that happened between the Allmans and the Dead and they never played together again after this until the 2004 show at the Gorge that I was fortunate enough to attend (2009 also).

The article says that both bands were paid the same but wasn't the rift over money?

its that time of year again... looking at this video i wonder how i did this back then. But ----> i did. Especially when I washed my hair everyday oh my .. it was a shock and believe me it was HOT ... we were there for the ABB and The Band .. i was not a big GD fan... Its good to be young and embrace all that it means.. it sure was a different time back in those days and the music was epic .. it was an experience .. i still say every year when this topic comes up that Rick Danko was taking videos of the audience and I wish that would surface some day ..I'm sure that there was some great stuff on that video especially behind the scenes.. I guess well never see that.
