I was going to ask for the smashed guitar to use in an art project ... until he stomped on the neck. No good to me now!
Donna says this sounds like me from down in the basement (sometimes) when I'm recording multi-track! I can kinda relate, but I'd never take it out on an innocent guitar!

That guy needs to install a punching bag where he plays. Personally I would skip the part that he keeps missing as it sucks anyway. 😛

I can relate when recording, Rusty. I go do something for a friend/others or commercials and no problem. Often a single take will do it. When doing my stuff at home, forget it. Will blow a part or section over and over. Cursing follows which leads to my wife asking if that is another song called F*ck!

I wonder if this guy ever realized that "playing" music should be fun.....maybe he should try cribbage....

One of the reasons I don't play golf anymore....along with it being too expensive and too slow.....

Seriously I don't get why he tries to play if it get's him that frustrated....Of course I also get the feeing everything gets that guy frustrated....he just seems like he carries a heavy load with him

Guitar (and music, in general) is something that I can suck at in the privacy of my own home. Golf - just too out in the public where everybody can watch. That, and the clubs cost too much to either throw in the pond or wrap around a tree when said suckage begins to occur.
I played high school baseball and can (could) hit a 70 mph breaking ball fairly consistently. I tried golf once. I had the hardest time hitting that ball ... which was just lying still on the ground. Got tired of hearing, "mind if we play through?". 😉

A friend of mine who owns a guitar store (new guitars, used guitars and repairs) is a big ABB fan too and was at an ABB show where Dickey became angry with the Les Paul he was using and took it off and tossed it across the stage and it landed on it's neck but didn't break. This may be the same show mentioned by Red Dog either on Dickey's site or in his book, I can't remember right now, and Red Dog said he later picked up the guitar and it wasn't broken and would still play so he put it back in Dickey's guitar rack and the next show Dickey saw it there and took it out and absolutely smashed it this time. I mean beyond use. That was the end of that Les Paul.

I'm not sure which one it was as Dickey used several before settling on the goldtop (Goldie) which he used regularly on stage from about 1974 to 1994 when he suddenly went to a Paul Reed Smith. Then a couple years later an ES-335 then a couple of Stratocasters were Dickey's main stage guitars until he was voted out of the band. Well Goldie came back in 1999 repainted red but he didn't use it as much as he did his old 56 Fender hardtail. In 2001 Gibson came out with the Dickey Betts signature model Les Paul and that is when Dickey returned to the Paul as his main guitar except for a few years recently when he used a custom shop SG. I know Dickey has said that he decided to go to a Les Paul because he liked the sound Duane was getting (When the ABB formed Dickey was using an ES-335, then went to a Strat then to an SG before getting a goldtop from Duane and he gave Duane the SG which Duane used for slide) and Dickey went though several before he found one he was completely happy with saying that a 57 had the sound and top he wanted.

Dickey said in an interview about 10 years ago that he owns 30 guitars so it would be difficult to figure out which Les Paul he trashed back then that Red Dog tried to save until Dickey saw it again and really smashed it. Also Dickey has given away several including the goldtop Duane gave him which he had painted red around the edges to give it a sunburst look. He gave that guitar to Dan Toler about 1980 but Dan sold it a few years ago for a decent price.

Saw him do something like that with a LP one night in '75. But it was head first through an amp, and he was pissed with Gregg.

Red Dog said he later picked up the guitar and it wasn't broken

Amazing...considering it was a Les Paul! 😮 😉
