Allman Family Revival Tour 2023

Pre-sale tomorrow at 10am
Presale Code= MUSHROOM
Very excited for the Boston Orpheum show as I saw the last two tours and some of the best concerts I have ever seen.

Saw this last night. Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. Where the hell is Berry? Noticed he wasn’t in any of Duane’s recent live videos on YouTube either. He was still in Duane’s band up until recently. Looks like Pedro has that gig now. I always liked Berry’s playing and singing and never saw evidence of him having a bad show. No mention of Lamar Jr. either for this tour.
The venue they booked in the Chicago area does not even hold 1,000 people, whereas their last time here, they played the Chicago Theater, which seats roughly 5k. The show was more than half full, so unless they plan on adding a 2nd show, I just don’t understand a lot of the moves this band makes.

On another forum some mentioned Oakley posted a question mark on some Facebook, page related to the tour so maybe there is some tension with Devon?
In any case I scored 2nd row center seats on the presale for the Boston Orpheum December 1st show. The lower of orchestra is basically sold out on the presale so hope the concert sells well so they can make enough $$$ to keep doing these Allstar concerts every year.

@bill_graham I saw Duane Betts and the Palmetto Motel recently live at a small venue. I bought Duane's new solo CD. Berry Duane Oakley is the bass player on the new CD and sings backup vocals. So I was expecting Berry to be there but it was Pedro on bass.
I got Duane to sign my copy of the CD and noticed Johnny greeting fans at the edge of the stage so got him to sign it too. I asked Johnny about the Allman Betts Band and he said they are doing the shows already on the books for this year plus a tour late this fall celebrating the music of Gregg and Dickey. Plus all the guys are still good friends and enjoy working together.
Johnny then handed my Duane Betts and the Palmetto Motel CD to Pedro and he signed it too. Berry Oakley as I said is on the CD so I guess Pedro has the gig now.
With Tal Wilkenfeld announced as the bass player for The Allman Betts Band, apparently Berry Oakley isn't in that band either right now.
Palmetto Motel is the name of Duane Betts solo band. Duane said that is the name he gave the guest house at his father's estate in Bradenton, Florida. Duane said he now stays in the guest house when in Florida and he also has a place in Colorado.
Apparently Duane Betts doesn't live in Malibu, California now.
I'm very curious about Berry Duane Oakley and why he isn't working with these guys now. I thought his bass playing and vocals in Allman Betts Band and when backing Duane Betts solo was very good. Oakley is a good player and singer. Something is out of wack with Oakley and the others.

Yeah, since Berry is playing with the other members of the ABB seems maybe he and Devon are having issues.
Shame as I loved the idea of the 3 sons playing together and carrying the tourch.
That being said Tal W. Is a fantastic bass player. I saw her with Jeff Beck and he only plays with the best.

I saw that Berry played a half dozen or so shows in June with ex - Black Crowes guitarist, Marc Ford and a drummer as a trio. Berry is out there gigging, just not with Devon or Duane now. That’s a shame in my opinion.

Article about the tour. 3 hours shows! Really looking forward to this concert

It's a real shame Berry Duane Oakley isn't playing with the Allman Betts Band or Duane Betts. Honestly, his song the Doctor's Daughter was my favorite song on Bless Your Heart.

Completely agree with this ---- Doctor's is one less cool tune I imagine won't be getting played anytime soon

Nor do I ---- unless it was something internal to the band, to just disappear for 1.5 years after really building some traction is head scratching.
When I got the alert that ABB was coming to St. Charles, I was quick to make sure it was actually Allman Betts and not Allman Family. Sure enough, no mention of Allman Family in the communication, which thrilled me. Now I see this.
When last ABB played in the area during the cold months, they were at St. Charles so perhaps that's why they chose to bring the Allman Family there, too?

Friend in Kentucky just Emailed me. He is crazy for the Black Crows.
His Email informs me that Marc Ford who became hugely successful with The Black Crows but eventually was fired by the Robinson brothers who ran the Crows, then rehired when the Black Crows decided to reform after being broken up for over 3 years and Ford quit the Black Crows via FAX after a year back with the band.
Well this Marc Ford guy is a song writer and lead and slide guitarist has a solo band together and according to this it's a 3 piece with Marc Ford on lead, slide guitars and vocals, BERRY OAKLEY, JR on bass guitar and vocals and Phil Jones on drums.
Apparently Oakley isn't involved with Devon Allman or Duane Betts at this time. He works for Marc Ford.

More news on Allman Betts Band!
Plus Devon Allman made it clear in an interview yesterday on Nashville Now that Tal Wilkenfeld is the BASS PLAYER for the Allman Betts Band!!!
Oh well. I do have to say she is an excellent musician.

I am holding my reservations until I see the Duane Betts and Palmetto Motel show in Harrisburg next week. But not happy about Berry being out of the Allman Betts Band. That's a songwriter down now.

@jack_frost I'm not happy about Berry not in Duane's band the Palmetto Motel either. BTW Duane Betts lives in Dickey's guest house on Dickey's estate in Bradenton half the time now and Palmetto Motel is the name Duane gave it. Duane said a number of famous musicians have slept there including Gregg Allman.
I attended a show on this current tour and bought Duane Betts' new solo CD and Berry Oakley plays bass and sings some backing vocals on it. It was recorded at Derek and Susan's studio. So I was expecting Berry to be there but it was the Great Southern bass player Pedro.
I got Duane Betts and Johnny Stachela to sign the CD as Johnny is on all the tracks too. And I asked Johnny about Allman Betts and he said they did the shows already on the books this year but have some new shows booked for late this fall and they are still together and they are all still good friends. He then handed my CD to Perdo to sign. But Pedro isn't on it!
Now I find out Tal Wilkenfeld is the bass player for these new Allman Betts shows.
Apparently Berry Oakley is a member of Marc Ford's band now.
Allman Betts had two albums out and drew a big crowd at the last two shows I saw and they sounded very good. Berry Oakley's bass and singing was a big part of the band's sound.
I think for whatever the reason the Allman Betts Band abandoned their momentum just as they were almost ready to break out and become perhaps as big as Gov't Mule and TTB. It is a shame and perplexing to me.
It reminded me of how Gregg Allman then Dickey too withdrew from the Allman Brothers Band on the heels of the enormous success of Brothers and Sisters and suddenly playing dozens of shows in 1973 headlining huge stadiums and coliseums. In 1974 the ABB only played 15 shows!! Yes to sell out crowds in large venues but 1974 was mostly spent by Gregg pursuing his SOLO career. Two long tours and a live album. Dickey did a month and half ion the road solo that fall too and released a solo studio album.
Then in 1975 they FINALLY were announced to be turning their attention to the ABB again but Gregg Allman was AOL constantly. Refused to leave LA and Cher. In short Gregg didn't care at all about the Allman Brothers Band when they had become the biggest band in the United States.
In his book Gregg admitted he didn't think Brothers and Sisters was one of their better albums and was expecting it not to sell that well. He was shocked and unprepared when it shot to number one for five weeks and sold millions and the ABB suddenly was the biggest band in America. Gregg indicated none of the guys were prepared for that and Gregg apparently didn't like it that much.
I didn't understand Gregg then at all and Butch Trucks was mad at Gregg all throughout 1974 telling the media " You can't depend on Gregg Allman for a damn thing".
Why the Allman Betts Band retreated just as they were on the cusp of breaking out also is strange.
Devon is a multimillionaire now and Duane Betts obviously is benefitting from his father being a multimillionaire too so maybe they don't feel a need to become successful musicians on the level of say Gov't Mule.
I really don't know. But I wish them all well as talented young musicians and their fathers were members and key songwriters to my favorite band by far!!

Yeah, I can't understand it myself, but I wish them all well and I am looking forward to seeing Duane this week

I had 2nd row center to the Allman Family Revival in Tulsa when Berry was in the band. It was abruptly cancelled about 24 hours before showtime and i'm still pissed about it. Rumor at that time was Devon and Berry got into big fight and that was that. These days I ignore the Allman Family Revival if there's no BO in the band. Those guys need to eat a bag of shrooms and make up.

Mark Ford is a very talented musician and was also in Rich Robinson's Magpie Salut band before the Crowes recent reunion and was a regular guest guitarist with Gov't Mule in the past.
Magpie Salut Live
Great interplay between Warren and Mark on this Humble Pie cover

Not to turn this into a Marc Ford thread but conversations do tend to get off topic here. 😀 Magpie Salute was mentioned. I saw them right before Marc re-joined The Crowes and it was a VERY good band. I think Rich R. ended that to make more $ with his brother. That's the thought anyway.
If you want some good Marc Ford check out his album "It's About Time" released in 2002. On April 1, 2000 I saw Mule in Detroit. North Mississippi All Stars opened. I think (not positive) that Marc sat in with The All Stars on their last song. Warren and Matt did.
The Mule set was awesome and I think Marc played the entire second set. From what I read, he was in Detoit recording the finishing songs for the album I mentioned. There is even a song on it called "Two Mules and a Rainbow" which I assume has something to do with Govt Mule.
I got a soundboard of The All Stars set which is stellar. I also have Mule's show somewhere but I can't find it.

Considering how few people post here these days going off topic at least keeps the conversation going.
Your post was very informative so I would say it offered value, for me at least, even if off topic.

@bill_graham Yes I agree Bill. Lee had some good information. I need to be more careful. If I hook another artist to the artist being discussed, I need to bring it back to that artist.
It's hard to say, talk about Paul McCartney without eventually getting off onto John Lennon.

Bill - I agree with you about keeping a conversation going. But if you think about it, how many times have you been in a social setting wheere the topic changes? All the time.
Robert - Good idea. Not everything is about how many albums an ABB release sold. Your fandom is very refrehing though.
If I can figure out how to burn a CD these days, I will try to send you both a copy of The North Mississippi All Stars show I mentioned. I wish I could find the Mule set because it is from the same soundboard.

Topic change again. Would love a copy of that NMA show as they are a favorite of mine. I go to see them everytime they come to this area and have tix to go see them in Hartford, CT.

I have no doubt Matt. I saw them in a tiny theater on their last tour together and there couldn't have been more than 100 people in attendance. Too bad as I really liked their couple of albums.

Matches what I heard about Devon and Berry. Heard a few other things as well
