Allman Brothers Reunion Tour

Do you think it will happen? Who do you think it will include? Post your thoughts if you care to. I'd love to see it happen no matter who is playing as the guitarists as long as they could do it justice musically. If it's bad musically I'd rather they not have it happen but if they can do it justice then bring it on

I hope they leave it alone. They went out the best way and a reunion tour could only tarnish their legacy (think MTB). They should continue to pursue their individual projects and never look back. Sorry...just my opinion.

I for one hope they do not do it..It would be a money grab and tarnish their image.. I mean the the last 10 or so years it was nothing but a money grab operation anyways.

Once again, I say don't do it. The last show was spectacular. Leave it at that, please.

How silly really. Gregg cannot even make it through his own scheduled shows and someone actually wants a serious discussion about a reunion tour? It is time to leave the past behind.

As I stated in the other thread about a reunion, they dropped the ball not promoting it more and having an official video/audio document of the final run. However, they went out in style don't water it down by bringing it back over and over again.
If they did a tour again, it would likely be remembered the way 1980-1982 are remembered vs how they came back in 1989.
I'm not sure Gregg could do any decent length tour anymore anyway, and I wouldn't want to see the band as a shell of its former self out there just for the payday.

Until there is a real announcement this is all just so much endless spec. Given that, not unsurprisingly, he is cancelling some of his run at City Winery, I do not anticipate there is going to be any ABB "reunion" anytime soon.
The Brother is not well.

Well said and there really is nothing more to be said on the subject IMO. Besides, Gregg right now due to health issues cannot even get his solo band back off the ground. So really, crawlman19, I have no idea why you are bothering us with such pointless questions.

Nah ,leave it alone.
If anything it would be kind of nice to see Gregg and Dickey maybe do a set of shows together(depending on their health and how their chops are ) one last time. not like a long tour, but maybe a run of shows at a small venue with a good backing band.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I agree - the only ABB I would like to see at this point would be the Allman Betts Band!

I know everybody seems to be against an ABB reunion and I understand why, but I would still love to see it under one condition -- the guitar lineup (and we're assuming Derek won't be a part of it) has to be some combination of Dickey, Warren and Jack (Dickey and Warren, Dickey and Jack, Jack and Warren). I certainly don't want to see, say, Jack and Scott Sherrard, no matter how good he is. The three I mentioned are all legitimate Allman Brothers and that makes a difference.
And, yes, I know Dickey may not have the chops he used to have, but I don't care. I saw B.B. King in his later years and it wasn't the same as seeing him in his prime, but, dang! -- it was B.B. King, a legend, and it was a thrill to see him live. Just to see the ABB up there again playing the songs we love would be sweet. And I don't want to hear that Gregg and Warren still play ABB songs and Les Brers does, too. It just ain't the same.
So, would it be as good as the ABB was at their absolute peak? Probably not. But it would still be good and I'd be happy to buy a ticket. These guys aren't going to be around forever (for that matter, neither are we) and a reunion would be some good, clean fun as long as everyone doesn't over-analyze and nit-pick.
Just my two cents. Thanks for listening...

I saw B.B. in the mid eighties and it was sweet. Just before his passing, I ventured out to a local concert venue where he was "performing" on the chance that he might sign my guitar. Standing outside with zero intention of buying a ticket, I was approached by a gent who literally begged me to accept his extra. Hesitantly, I took it, wandered in and found my seat. B.B. was seated on stage talking to the crowd, where he would start a song, play some off-key notes and stop. This continued for about 45 minutes or so and as this went on I was able to get closer and closer to the front row, merely because of the mass exodus of people who were ....leaving. The band looked sad to be honest and expressed a level of patience I can not even begin to describe here. A very woeful evening indeed.
I have no desire to see my favorite band go out the same way......Not when I am accustomed to such I high level of playing....
No Thank You.

And how long after that before the next reunion? Another two years?
I have always been scathing of artists who stage a farewell show/ tour then announce a comeback a while later.
How many people paid out more than they could afford to travel to the Beacon in 2014 in the belief that they would be watching the last ever ABB show(s)?
Unless it's for a charity event which would benefit hugely - I'm thinking of Pink Floyd at Live 8, for example - reunions are invariably a money-grab with sky-high ticket prices for a couple of hours nostalgia.

I say too that they let it go.
Derek is not playing so that's a nonstarter or me.
I would be very happy listening/seeing Les Brers with maybe some guest spots with Gregg/Warren.

Reunion Tour - The band has had so many lineups over the decades who is to say
who the ABB really is? I caught Les Brers this summer and can a band
be the ABB without Gregg? I think that is the real question? I could see either GAB or Les
Brers and that was a no brainer. Give me Jack, 2nd guitarist, Butch, Mark, Oteil, Jamoie and Gregg
and excited to see the ABB play again.

The ABB couldn't even string together a coherent press release let alone organizing a farewell tour during their final year and that was with a lineup in place. Does anyone seriously think they can put together a reunion tour starting from scratch?
Jokes (sort of) aside, it looks like the only reason Gregg is touring is because he needs the cash and if that is the case, maybe someone could step in and do some sort of benefit show to at least pay his medical bills. There is no shame in that and I'd rather he live a long and happy healthy life away from the road rather than tour at this point. I don't think he has lasted through an extended tour for a few years now.
It is sort of interesting that Dickey, Gregg, Butch, Jaimoe and Chuck could all get back together with Otiel and re-create the Brothers & Sisters lineup but with age, health, personal histories and just the general difficulty it takes for these guys to organize themselves in the first place, I just don't see any of it happening.

Let me add something here from a medical angle. There is a recent thread here that is still active where Gregg stated that during his recent pneumonia scare, he had EIGHT bronchoscopies.
Look, I'm a Respiratory Therapist and I know exactly what a bronchoscopy is because I've assisted in them: A Doctor puts a tube down into your lungs to look around, take tissue samples and remove fluid and mucus. To have EIGHT of them is almost UNHEARD of. It's also very, VERY serious.
Please folks, stop talking about an ABB reunion, and say a few prayers for Gregg..........

Words of wisdom from Rob. I agree, we all need to pray for Gregg. I too have finally given up on the delusion that an Allman Brothers Band reunion tour would be a good idea right now. It's not even a possibility.
Instead, I'm hoping that Les Brers will add Warren and tour the West Coast next summer. My fantasy is to see the incredible Jack Pearson, Oteil and Warren play a 30 minute "Mountain Jam" from 10 feet away! Now wouldn't that be sweet!!!

GA tour for just the money? Naaah. I think he loves music and has no idea what to do with himself when he's off the road. He's never really worked that one out for himself.
He's medically fragile and medically complex. He's known since his liver transplant that he was on borrowed time. I will guess that being there for Mama A kept him going. Waiting for the relase of his the Low Country album kept him going. I will stick my neck out here and say I'm thinking his new record, that's a motivator, and he has certainly lived the last few years knowing he was on borrowed time and making the most of it.
I sure don't want to see GA if it gets like the BB thing got at the end. He's given everything he had. He does not owe us a damn thing.

I am looking forward to Gregg's new album and hopefully some other recordings.

Well stated!

I suspect any reunion we will see would be at Wanee or Peach fest.
At this point, if you add Warren & Gregg to Les Bres you have it. That would put Warren & Jack as the guitar duo. Derek has moved on the most of the alumni.
Over the last few years Gregg has had some periods where he is healthy and has sung and performed amazingly well (Wanee 2016), but this most recent ordeal is significant.
I can't imagine the rest of them signing up for a tour.

Interesting. I as well as my wife , we both work in the medical field also. She is a nurse who works in the endo and broch dept and has assisted Dr's in these type of procedures for years. She said that sounds pretty excessive to have that many ,but not to uncommon to have multiple ones done over a lengthy time period. She thought maybe if he was on a vent possibly to have multi ones done, but not sure to that extent.
Thoughts Rob...

I've been an RT for 22 years and I don't ever remember anyone having eight bronchoscopies during a single hospital admission. MAYBE "over a lengthy time period" as you say, yes, meaning multiple years. But not on one hospital admission, and we're talking about one hospital admission for pneumonia in Gregg's case. Then again, we know that Gregg tends to bullsh*t in interviews. Hard for me to imagine him deliberately lying about this though.

I can see both sides of this. First, Gregg has said time and time again that he will be playing until he physically can't get up on the stage because it's the only thing he knows. I think some are out of line to accuse these guys of a money grab. They need to play like we need oxygen. They've proven decade after decade that they simply love to play, and if they decided to do one, it would be for the love of the music, IMO. Secondly, I think 2 nights at Peachfest is enough, and could work if, and only if, Gregg is healthy and can hold his own up there. Because the rest of the band is still on fire, and Warren and Jack would be amazing to see.

Musicians don't retire. The show may end up being at a bar down the street but they never stop.
You always have a choice as to whether or not you buy a ticket. I saw BB right till the end all through the years. Did he change? Sure but we all do in our 80s. Some of those shows over the last few years were rather touching and BB always hit that sweet vibrato at some point. Ramble some stories? Sure he did. But I knew he would.
As for a Reunion Tour, he isn't able to do his.
I vote for stay home and get well.

If he has fluid and mucous in his lungs, that needs to be broken up and the cause of it being there needs to be determined. I know how modern medicine works, they don't look at alternative treatments for the most part. I also know wild oregano (from the Mediterranean) is one of the best natural medicines to get rid of excess mucus in the lungs, sinuses and entire body, it has anti-mycotic (fungal), anti-bacterial properties to it. It also has been shown to destroy H1N1, that's right in vitro, it actually kills the FLU virus. Dr. Oz even reported on that. Goldenseal and Grapefruit seed extract also strengthen immunity and get the mucus out.
He needs clean, moist air, and a healthy diet. He may have normal central air in his house, it should be triple filtered air like in five start hotels.
He needs a naturpathic or complementary medicine Dr. who will help him. Conventional medicine can only do what they have been trained to do, and it is NOT enough.
In Islam, it is said that when God prevents you from doing something, ie. in this case, like not being able to do those shows at the winery, it is to prevent you from something worse happening. As an alcoholic, he should not be anywhere near any alcohol. The potential risk to his health has to be taken seriously. He was given a chance with the transplant, putting him near temptation is not a good decision. Maybe God is saving his life.

Conventional medicine can only do what they have been trained to do, and it is NOT enough.
Not enough? Conventional medicine has saved Gregg's life several times.
1. Liver transplant, 2010.
2. Serious pneumonia 2013 when he had to return from a European tour.
3. Another extremely serious and life-threatening pneumonia last summer. We easily could have lost Gregg this year.
Oregano, goldenseal and grapefruit seed extract are fine for maintenance when someone is symptom free. Not when they are deathly ill in the hospital or when their liver is ravaged with cancer, ascites and Hep C from years of abuse.
As an alcoholic, he should not be anywhere near any alcohol.
As long as Gregg is a musician, he'll be performing in venues that serve alcohol. It's the power of NO........it's that simple. As a recovering alcoholic, I should know. Where does this end? Not go to the grocery store because there are several aisles there full of alcohol?

I seriously doubt there is much chance of an ABB reunion tour. but I would love to see a reprise of the ABB NYE "Watkins Glen" set with Jack Pearson as a second guitar, Chuck Leavell on keys and Paul Riddle as a second drummer.
