Allman Brothers on Atlanta Sports Talk Radio

Hello Everybody! It's been a while. I don't really post much here anymore, but I'm laid up at home recovering from hernia surgery and wanted to share a funny moment from Atlanta sports radio about the ABB.
They were coming out of a break on 92.0 The Game and the music playing was Nobody Knows. Rick Camla, local sports talk guy, starts passionately gushing about how that is one of his Top 10 Favorite songs of all time. He correctly identified it as the First Set version and started talking about the Allmans trademark dueling guitar sound. The other DJ, Jon Michaels, is more of a hip hop/R+B guy and asked for more clarification about what he meant by dueling guitars.
"Okay, over here you have Dickey Betts. Over here you have Warren Haynes. Giants! Legends! It's like having Larry Bird and Magic Johnson on the same team. And they are just going at it, trading riffs back and forth. It doesn't get any better than that!"
I just thought folks here might get a chuckle out of that. Camla is a big Deadhead and often works jamband music into the conversation on the show, but this was a pretty impressive display of Allmans knowledge on his part. He knows his stuff!

That's pretty cool. Maybe he needs to do a show with Steve Gorman!
MSNBC has commentators who work Phish references into their broadcasts which you kind of have to appreciate, even if you don't dig Phish.

Thanks brother, appreciate the kind words. This website will always have a place in my heart, but I haven't been around much lately. Especially after Gregg and Butch passed away, there just isn't much to talk about anymore. When you take away even the possibility of a future reunion, it feels like the Book Of Allmans is pretty much closed.
My surgery seems to have gone well. I'm doing well today for being cut open yesterday. I'm definitely going to be out of work for a while, but 3M is really good about taking care of their employees and I'll get as much paid medical leave as I need until I come back.

Glad things went well for you Rob. I doubt I am the only one that thinks your participation around here is missed.

Which one is Bird and who is Magic?
See Rob - you pop up and now we have a topic for a month.
Agree with the others. Nice to see you around and hopefully a full and speedy recovery. Stop by more often - gives Lee a break from my posts.

Thanks for fhe kind thoughts, CanadianMule. We may not have seen eye to eye on everything ABB-related but I've always respected your passion for the music and you knowledge of the industry. You know your stuff! As Dave Mason once said, there ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy, there's only you and me and we just disagree

All about respect. And for the record, I definitely agreed with you far more than I ever disagreed. Boys are gonna bump heads over time. Always enjoyed your insight, humor, input and above all your honesty. You are a straight up guy and many of us witnessed that often over the years. Nothing but respect and as the boys mentioned - people like you are missed around here.
We are actually a fun, peace lovin' group again. Well mostly. 😉 Think we bored the trolls to death.
We got you two days in a row so maybe we are growing on you again. LOL - Make it three, Rob.

We bored the trolls to death. I laughed out loud at that. Too true!

Good to see you here Rob 😛

Hey bluedad! Good to see you too my friend.
I'm healing up pretty good from my surgery. Much easier to get around now than it was a day or two ago. Definitely not as much of a struggle to stand up/sit down as it was right after the surgery. I still feel wounded, no mistaking the big gash in my belly. 3M approved my disability claim, so I can sit at home for at least another week and get paid to do it.
Thanks again for all the kind words everybody! Have a great weekend. There is a free webcast of Lettuce tonight at the Capitol Theater, if you're into that sort of thing. I know that is what I'll be doing later tonight.

I was very impressed with the Lettuce show I saw in February here at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. One of my favorite bands in the world today. I am delighted that Tammy and I will get to see them at Red Rocks in June, finally knocking Red Rocks off the bucket list. We were planning on heading out West for a big trip to the Rockies and Yellowstone Park, and it just so happens that Lettuce was playing Red Rocks when we are in Denver. Can't wait!
