Thanks for the share. Forgot about Good Times but remember it all the same hearing it again! That's Quinones on backing vocal?

No sure if ist Marc. Could be Jack P or Oteil. Did this song become Tombstone Eyes?

It was Marc singing backup when I saw this song being played. They asked Dickey about it in an interview and he said he didnt know Marc could sing until recently and Marc said "nobody asked me".

Gregg and Butch didn't like this song or J. J's Ally or any of the songs Dickey brought to the band after Warren and Allen quit. And they were angered when their objections were ignored by Dickey and they had to put this material in the sets or Dickey wouldn't play at all. It only exasperated the growing tension between the founding members save Jaimoe that boiled over in 2000.

Gregg talked about it in 2001 saying "they wouldn't let me have Queen of Hearts but we had to play these songs I just didnt find that good just because our former guitar player wrote them "

Gregg also revealed Butch Trucks still held a grudge with him because the 31st of February didnt become the Allman Brothers after he and Duane joined briefly and recorded some tracks in Florida. Gregg said Butch just feels that line up, Gregg and Duane, Scott Boyer on guitar, David Brown on bass and Butch on drums should have become the ABB but he (Gregg) and Duane didn't hear that band as becoming anything so Gregg said he split and returned to LA and Duane left too.

Some stories say Gregg returned to LA to keep the Hourglass from being sued by Liberty Records as Liberty felt Gregg was the only one in the Hourglass to have a chance going anywhere so they were fine with the others leaving before the contract expired.

I love this song. They could call it whatever they wanted to, pretty much sounds the same to me.

And Blackey, regarding Marc singing, I didn't know he did / could. Then several years ago I was at an ABB show and my seat was in the second level, right in the middle so I was looking at Marc straight on. So I kind of focused on him and he sang harmony on pretty much everything. It was impressive. No idea if he can do lead but he did harmony very well.

Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

I personally loved those songs. That would of been a hell of a ABB album.

Yes Lee. Marc had sung in some of the salsa bands he was in but nobody in the ABB knew Marc could sing until Warren Haynes and Allen Woody decided to quit the band. Gregg suggested Jack Pearson and I think it was Butch who suggested Otiel, that could be wrong, then they were wondering who could sing some of the background notes and Marc said he can sing those notes and the rest of the guys said "we didn't know you can sing." And Marc said "nobody asked".

The first year Jack and Otiel were in the band was one of their strongest post original lineup years. I thought it was devastating that Warren and Allen wanted out and it that would hurt the renewed interest and revived sound of the band. Jack and Otiel brought the band back. Warren later admitted they peaked in 1994 and the original guys didn't even want to record another album because Epic refused a new deal with the band.

Apparently Epic records and Arista before them thought the Allman Brothers could still sell albums like the Rolling Stones or Van Halen. But the ABB had more of niche audience. Like a good jazz or blues band. Those just don't usually have Platinum albums. 300 to 400 thousand copies are considered huge successes for bands like that and the ABB finally had one to go gold in 1994 (500,000 copies) so Butch and Dickey thought they deserved a better deal with Epic. When that didn't happen the band refused to record and that really disappointed Warren then Dickey pulled a knife on Allen so they decided to quit.

Half of the crowd at the shed tours came to party and the band had a reputation for putting on a good boogie show. They knew the old songs because they were playing the old Capricorn stuff on the classic rock stations. The Epic cuts didnt get much airplay after the initial album release. I remember Good Clean Fun went to number one on the rock airplay chart in 1990 the Seven Turns went to number 5 and a guy with Epic told me they expect the Seven Turns album to give Platinum. It didn't go gold. But it did sell over 500,000 if you count worldwide sales.

When Hitting the Note failed to even come close to gold Butch Trucks had no interest in recording again. Gregg finally said they would even if they have to record without Butch. Warren and Derek wanted to do another album and Gregg was responding to that but even Gregg lost interest so we never got another album.

I remember liking this song during the 96 tour but felt it got progressively worse.

The original song was “Tombstone Eyes”
and was first played in the 1996 tour with
Warren and Woody. Garden States Arts
Center Holmdel NJ has a killer version.
The original song was good, that 95-96’
run was awesome. Warren and Woody
left, jack and Oteil came in, the song changed
to “Those Eyes Again”, then later in 1999 to
“Good Times Don’t Fade Away.”

Marc began harmony in “Blue Sky” after
Warren left.

Dickey had “Girl With the Deep Blue Eyes”
Going with DB & GS in 2004, another
“Eyes” song, and it was a good one.
