@porkchopbob That is true!! Wonder how many gigs ( shows) Gregg, Dickey, Butch and Jaimoe have done professionally. They had played plenty of gigs before the ABB formed in 1969.

Saw I picture of Dickey on his 80th. He uses a cain now apparently. Unless it was just for the pic.

Dickey was asked how such an important,  key and founding member of the band could get pushed out back in 2000.

Dickey said one reason was money. One person was irritated about business and pay. And Dickey was surprised to find out the on going resentment has been building for many years.

When asked if he could elaborate Dickey declined. Dickey said he was proud of the Allman Brothers Band and it's legacy and success and didn't want to go negative now plus the guys have passed on and he would rather not talk about it.

I thought that was a cool way to handle it.

@dovetail "they" as in the bootleggers and I would say the official release is the actual date. I have so many bootlegs albums and cds and I bet half of them have the wrong show date. Still love having them though.

I was at this show with friends from RPI in Troy. We sat in front of the mixer.
Dr. John opened. It wasn’t a spectacular show.  I was fortunate to be able to copy it from Tony Yoken. I think we got the whole show on reel but I’ll have to check. So maybe the music on the two bootleg CDs I have warps my view.
We saw them April 16 only 9 days later.  You can listen to that show on Sugarmegs.  Commander Cody opened. Much better show and Dickey added his fantastic part to his solo  in Whipping Post.  He had done the same at the Hollywood Bowl on the 10th. We got a bootleg of that show years later and it’s on YouTube. Another fantastic Dickey solo.
So I’ll probably buy this CD just to see how the sonics are improved if any.
there are times when I think the January Fillmore West bootlegs have better sound than the official release.

Anyone spin this yet? I'm listening to some samples and it's a crisp show but all I hear is Berry's bass it's so high in the mix.

@porkchopbob Yes Berry is way up in the mix. Loudest thing on stage. Berry was said to have been withdrawn, heavily into drugs and booze due to Duane's death.

Butch said it became clear Berry couldn't live in a world which didn't have Duane Allman in it. And it was affecting his play to the point Butch said he became very close to calling a band meeting and suggest they replace Berry with another bass player.

But on the tracks I've heard so far, his bass playing at this show is excellent to me. And you can't help but hear every note as he is so loud.

Dickey's slide on Ain't Waisting Time No More is outstanding!! Dickey was a very good slide player when he wanted to play slide.

Here is the famous Syracuse Jam. I'm told this is the ONLY time it was played and actually didn't officially have a name. Dickey made it up on the fly and the other four jumped in and added what they thought would fit.

Dickey's slide is really cool and well played on the live Ain't Waisting Time No More from the Syracuse 1972 show. Check it out!!

The Syracuse Jam is cool to have but on first listening I noticed that the channels are swapped. Gregg, Jaimo and Berry should be panned toward the left channel and Dickey and Butch in the right. How could they let that happen.

@salcapitano Yes I noticed that too. I quickly flipped my headphones around. I can't enjoy a live track by the band with Jaimoe on the right and Butch on the left and other instruments swapped.

Someone involved with the dubbing and or mixing didn't know the band as well as we do.

I believe Bill Levenson remastered the show, and he knows the band better than anyone here having worked on numerous ABB recordings. I wonder when in the production the channels were flipped, should have been an easy fix.

@porkchopbob With Berry so hot in the mix and the channels flipped, ( I haven't heard all the songs) it certainly doesn't seem like Bill's work. Bill Levenson put together the Dreams box set in 1989 and several ABB archival releases.

Butch Trucks was always pleased with Bill handling the archival releases. Butch said the band had no say so in the old stuff due to Phil Walden and the contracts and how it was sold when Phil bailed on Capricorn and the bankruptcy.

@robertdee it was Bill Levenson. It's not a bad mix, I'm sure the original tape was challenging.

@porkchopbob It indeed is a challenging tape.

I've heard the boot and it's not a good recording. Obiviously the Allman Brothers Band wasn't expecting this show to be released as an album/CD the night they performed the show.

I saw three five man band shows and had one on cassette for years a friend recorded at that show ( Winston-Salem, N C.) and between You Don't Love Me and Les Brer Dickey led the band though a long jam and Syracuse Jam reminds me of what they did except in North Carolina it was longer.

Unfortunately that cassette froze and stopping working in the 1980's. So I haven't heard it in years.

One item I do remember though is they had already played One Way Out and when Dickey kicked off You Don't Love Me, he was playing the intro to One Way Out and Berry Oakley rushed up and stood right in front of Dickey, face to face, and began playing the intro of You Don't Love Me. Dickey quickly began playing what Berry was playing.

It was at the end of this song Dickey led them though a long cooking jam which eventually morphed into Les Brer.
