Allman Brothers - Austin City Limits
The Allman Brothers managed to be on TV a lot in the early 1990s - Unplugged, Tonight Show, Late Show, Conan, Dennis Miller. I taped a lot of them, but I completely missed it when they were on Austin City Limits in February 1996. I knew PBS would rerun it at some point, so I checked the listing every week.
Finally it was going to be rerun in September 1997 so I cleared my day and queued up a blank tape. But instead of ACL, PBS bumped their entire schedule for coverage of Princess Di's funeral. The whole. freakin'. funeral. Cars to and from Westminster. And it wasn't even live coverage, since it happened hours earlier.
I was so pissed. It quickly became a crappy bootleg, 3rd Set, that was just transferred from a poorly recorded broadcast (like this one). But I never saw this performance until years later when it posted online.
I have it on VHS. Can't remember when I taped it.
The Blue Sky from this show has been on YouTube for several years.
Most players gone now on all lineups except the last lineup.
This show: Gregg, Dickey, Allen, Butch gone.
Jaimoe ONLY one left from original and 5 man band.
Chuck and Jaimoe left from the 3rd lineup.
Great stuff! Enjoyed this thanks for posting.
Thanks for posting this Bob. The 90s were my indoctrination to the band. I had to chuckle a few times. Gregg with his drink and pack of smokes handy. The haircuts that Marc and Jaimoe had back then are hilarious. Woody playing the bass as if it were a guitar. Who was that clean-shave guy pretending to be Dickey?
I forgot about him looking like that. And his solo on Ramblin' Man. Wow!
For what it's worth, I didn't think it was a crappy copy.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

The sound isn't very good, sounds like a VHS recording of a weak PBS reception. It's full and there's some separation, but it's tinny and pretty sure it's mono.
Compare that muddy "Midnight Rider" to this much more crisp copy which was probably taken directly from ACL's master copy.
