Is anyone aware of any new imminent releases coming our way to celebrate the 50thh Anniversary of the Allman Brothers creation, 3/26/69?? Very sadly, I am not.

It's kind of odd that they don't.

I don't know the logistics behind this band's machinery. In the past, they certainly did have someone behind them putting out Greatest Hits collections periodically, assembling that boxed set, getting some live sets out periodically, and certainly between the Instant Lives and the Archive live CDs, they have done better by us than plenty of bands have.

In some ways, I am spoiled by the incredible access we have to music right now. If you had told me back in the mid 90s that we would have all of these Instant Lives and the Archive stuff and the complete Fillmore box, whew! Back then I was happy enough getting the First and Second set releases.

But, I don't get the sense that there is a marketing guru or aggressive record company making moves for them anymore. And I'm not suggesting that I want another greatest hits!!! I just think that a band with this kind of legacy could easily have someone crafting a 50th anniv release, but it does not seem to be happening at all.

What would live up to the billing of a 50th anniv release? Some of the stuff that I would like - some good Jack Pearson era, Jimmy Herring era, or Enlightened Rogues era - would not be what the average marketer would offer.

I'd say a top-notch video along the lines of that awesome Led Zeppelin DVD set would be great.

Im with you on some great old videos but i dont think we will get that lucky. A lost and found instruction film by Duane showing all of the secrets is a nice dream too. Smile

As far as i know there are at least 5 releases announced / rumored but not necessarily to mark their 50th Anniversary:

1) The recently announced "The Big House" memorablia coffeetable book (Kickstarter campaign).

2) Plans for a Jack Pearson era archive release were mentioned in the aftermath of Gregg's passing.

3) Plans for a Duane era Fillmore West boxset were also mentioned in the aftermath of Gregg's passing.

4) A big deluxe edition product is in preparation mastered again by Bill Levenson*. But this might be the
same as the previous 3). Also a Gregg Allman Laid Back era and a ABB Win, Loose & Draw era
deluxe edition have been rumoured.

5) The DVD from the Atlanta Pop Festival performance. Apparently a lot of legal issues blocked it's
release so far.

6) A big ABB rock documentary is in the work (focusing on the original line-up and therefor ending with
Eat A Peach. Not another low budget project again with only "talking heads" and hardly any footage
or original music but with various previously unreleased footage. Maybe the Atlanta Pop Festival
footage will be part of this in stead of a separate release. This release has been mentioned some
where on the immense Steve Hoffman music forum and there was even some video footage of a
radio interview in which the director/producer confirmed it.

7) Bear's Sonic Journals: Allman Brothers Band-Fillmore East, February 1970: vinyl version scheduled for
RSD 2019.

I'd also like to see a release of the solo album that Duane was working in early 1969 on just before the formation of the ABB. It would be nice to collect all the songs with alternate versions, jams, etc. in one place.

I rather expected some combination of Jaimoe/Warren/Derek/Jack/Oteil/Marc/Chuck/Duane Trucks would come together and play some kind of gig somewhere to nod to the 50th. Doesn't really seems to be in the offing at this stage though.

Per another thread right here earlier this year, a DVD including Atlanta Pop and some other performances is currently being worked on and if my memory serves me they are trying to get it out this year to coincide with the 50th Anniversary.

I am sure there are some here who know much more than I do. But at a minimum, this is quite exciting. A DVD of the original band which is of even average quality for audio/video makes me salivate. But with 2019 technology it hopefully will be better than average.

Been waiting on this for a very long time-I truly hope the complete performances will be included-the music on this is terrific.

I think it would probably be a thing with the Allman-Betts Band where they invite as many former members as possible to sit-in.

Yeah total bummer thought for sure at second to last Beacon show and then again Les Brers show it was only a matter of time before a 50th reunion tour. Here we are days away from 50 years and the band has passed.

And per Bear's site, Reel to Reel 7 1/2 IPS format will be forthcoming, also. This is probably the only time in my life again, that I will see professional grade analog R2R Brothers from a trusted source that is still pure analog. On that basis I will pony up the extreme cost.

It's been 10 years since the Beacon Run of 2009. It'd be great if some of those shows were released on CD/DVD, especially the 2 nights with Eric Clapton!!!!

There has got to be some unreleased studio music still in the vaults from the ABB and Gregg Allman Band. That would be heaven.

I'm certain there is and the Eddie Kramer and John McDermott interview mentioned they're working on ABB film special with material from Duane era up to Eat A Peach for the 50th anniversary. But it might have meant the 50th anniversary of Atlanta Pop. . I'm very disappointed that there hasn't already been any information for the ABB's 50thanniversary, which is this month, from ABB Inc. officially.

Yep, that was the interview i mentioned in my previous post but couldn't locate anymore. I agree with you that it's disappointing that there hasn't been no new official announcements from the ABB camp except for the Big House book. It kinda starts to resemble the Led Zeppelin anniversary. Some announcements from Jimmy Page that got fans world wide really choked and anticipating new spectacular vault releases in the anniversary year but so far only a coffee table book and a remastered "How The West Was Won" emerged (and some equipment gadgets).

Agreed, ABB music from other eras is so readily available; please, just give us the hidden Duane gems.

Dream Scenario:

Some 18 year old kid, after his dad passes, gets a handed down reel to reel tape, that was actually grandpa's. It has cryptic scribblings on it. Some cute mushroom doodling. Kid has no tape deck, so Craigslist it goes. Five Dolla.

Side A is all the missing Fillmore stuff. Side B is Derek and the Domino's secret sessions.

I was at Clapton night number two; but it paled in comparison to 3/26/09. I have never heard a band play with such intensity and mission (could be sour grapes cause I wasn't there but the clips I heard of the last Beacon consert sounded like they were keeping something in reserve due to its length)

That is a pure analog porn picture. Kinda lost my mind for a moment Smile I would buy a second deck just to copy them if I had to.

I have been hearing this for over 10 years. At least.

Whatever happened to that Fillmore West '71 release. Heard that was 'ready to go' a few years ago as well.

Do you think they will do anything to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this release being ready to go but unreleased?

It's not ABB Inc.,official and it's not a soundboard but I'm very fucking happy!!!
Special Thabk You to Oldcoot and the secret others -

"As we near the 50th Anniversary of the forming of the band, in celebration of that monumental occasion, I’d like to offer their show from September 3, 1971 in Montreal at The Place des Nations.

This is a rough sounding audience source of lesser quality that has chatter, some foul language and has only one really tremendous thing going for it…. the original lineup of the Allman Brothers Band!!!
nIt’s a fairly standard set, but, there are a couple of nice wrinkles to it, because you just never knew where Duane might take the band on any given night.

Long live the memories of Duane and Gregg Allman, Berry Oakley and Butch Trucks! Best of all wishes to surviving members Jaimoe and Dickey Betts. You all made some amazing music together!"
