Allman Betts Band- Liz Reed Brooklyn Bowl

This is eerie. Ginty playing the B3 like a monster--Band just has the "sound"---they have taken the mantle

Awesome version. Those guys can play!

Thanks for sharing. Sounds pretty good for only having one drummer and a bongo player.

I'm not ready to throne these guys just yet, especially on their dad's tunes but I can say definitively at this point that it's their original music that will get me to go to their shows and stay interested.
I think they played 3 at this show and the 2nd tune they played has classic potential already. Love that tune - can't remember the name!

I thought the 2nd tune was their best original.

Agreed, but they are an interesting band to me (I guess to any ABB fan). All of "us" here know their lineage; they are proud men of that lineage, and the dilemma they will face is how to build an audience on their own. On their own, they haven't made a significant mark in the business (not trying to be mean here), but together can they do it? Can they do it within the ABB audience or can they reach further? From what i can see, they have a few things going for them
1. Duane Betts appears to really have soared as a guitar player
2. Johnny Stachela is not well known but quite good
3. Devon is a great and energetic musician
4. Ginty is a great add
5. As a jamming band, they really have nailed the ABB sound, and are fun to listen to
6. They obviously have an aggressive tour schedule and are playing a lot, thus getting a lot of grass roots exposure.
These guys are getting together at a much older age than their Dads...can they pull it together now? I really hope so, I think they are a lot of fun. I just don't know if playing to audiences of ABB fans, (much older for the most part) is a lifeline

Really enjoyed the jams.
One of my friends thinks when Devon sings with that dramatic vibrsto
it reminds him of Cher, and now I can't unhear that 🙁
These guys need a Voice.

I am happy for Duane and Devon but I wish they had a different singer and they can focus on writing and playing guitar as I find both of there singing voices not great.

melodies are memories.... Duane tune...

That 'Liz Reed was spot on, they have definitely nailed that sound. Very nice cover.
That being said, I, like some others here wonder if they posses the songwriting ability to come up with an "anthem" similar to that on their own. That, at least to these ears will the true test.
I also can't help but think that excluding their lineage, we wouldn't even know who these guys are.
Agreed on Duane, his ability to build and phrase solos has grown exponentially, very impressive tone as well. Interesting to me that Devon sat out on IMOER, skill set?....His vocals are the one thing that keeps me from really liking these guys....
I wish them luck and hope they continue to grow and find their own path...

The ABB had the same problem. Nobody could sing as well as the band could play. Duane, Dickey and Berry were dividing the singing. That was solved when Gregg Allman became the keyboard player. Gregg didn't want to sing Hoochie Coochie Man and Duane enjoyed singing Dimples so Berry and Duane kept singing those but Dickey quit singing. I continue the feel Dickey's singing, while perfect for some songs, isn't a lead singer. In his 1988 version of The Dickey Betts Band, Dickey shared lead vocals with Warren Haynes and Johnny Neal. In the 1970s I always thought Dickey needed a vocalist to sing certain songs in Great Southern.
When they began Eat A Peach just before Duane was killed, Dickey was expecting Gregg to sing Blue Sky. But Duane said "You wrote it, it's your song and it fits your voice so you sing it". After Eat A Peach, Dickey sang more and more on later albums.

Jessica from last night. They may be covering tunes but they are nailing them, and the fact that they have the lineage does make it more interesting (at least to me). They honor it well and i wish them well

These guys are really starting to hit their stride. Duane’s confidence has grown and his playing is really showing it now. I agree their weakest part is Devon’s vocals. Not a fan of that, but enjoy his guitar playing for the most part. If he would showboat a little less and Duane on the other hand would show a little more spark, that might be a good thing. I think that would strike a good balance. I dont really expect Duane to have his Daddy’s charisma onstage. Dickey used to be almost as much fun to watch as to listen to. Duane seems more reserved, but he IS on a stage, so maybe the more comfortable he gets, his personality will show . Glad they are carrying the torch, yet still trying to write their own stuff. Takin’ My Time is a pretty catchy Duane Betts tune. I will definitely see go see them whenever they are close enough.

Wow! This by far is the best I have heard this band.
