ABB Quoting Others

This may be old news to most people, but brand new to me.
So I'm listening to Weather Report's "Birdland" today for the first time. I hear the opening melody, and I instantly know that they are playing the same (different key) lick as Dickey does in Mountain Jam. I figured Dickey was quoting them, but Birdland was recorded in 1977, so it's the other way around.
Now, since the song's name is Birdland, I'm sure that the lick is not Dickey's, but Charlie Parker's. From what song does this lick come from? That, or I'm way off and Weather Report is nodding to Dickey (and Duane) as they harmonize on the lick later on in the song.
Help me, ABB fans. You're my only hope.

I'm not aware of the melody being directly inspired by a Parker tune. I always thought is was more a tribute to Parker and the nightclub.
Blooby

Thanks Blooby. If that's true, then WR is definitely quoting Dickey from his opening MJ solo. How cool is that? One of hte most avant garde jazz fusion groups of all time quoting mr. betts?

I don't claim to be any expert. I just figured I would have heard something along the way were it lifted directly. I went back to find it and couldn't suss it out. What time are you referring to in Mt. Jam?
