Also looking forward to this. This was the first time I ever heard Warren play slide on AWTNM.

I am sure that ACL and the ABB have a problem with this. As many of us know, it is great and also traded for years.

It's in the public domain, as it has been more than 20 years. I wouldn't have posted it if I thought it was immoral or illegal.

That said, if Lana or Rowland asks me to delete it, I'll do so willingly.

Not so sure that you are correct about that. It was never released and ACL would hold the rights to it from broadcast.

I'm not going to get into an argument with you about this. I respect your opinion but, as I said, I'll let Lana and Rowland make the final decision.

From my other post:

Another way to look at it is by letting the ABB (?) and their "management" know about what's out there, maybe it'll force the issue and, now that they have their own label, finally take control and get this stuff out while they can still profit from it.

I've been around here for over 15 years, CM. I learned from some of the most respected traders here and believe me, I would MUCH rather buy it straight from the source. But one gets tired of waiting forever and if they don't do it, someone else will meet the demand for it.

Given the fact that the biggest names in rock are being "bootlegged" in the EU (again, where it is legal) and none have stopped it, leads me to believe that I'm in the right on this.

I DO wish they were ALL getting paid on it. But the laws are not on their side. And this stuff NEEDS to come out in decent quality. Not everybody has the wherewithal to trade or download and if they are willing to pay
for it, it should be made available to them. Clearly the demand is there.

If I'm proven wrong, I'll promptly admit it and take the appropriate action.

I didn't create this stuff. I'm just doing people a public service, whatever yours or their point of view, by letting them know its out there.

They can do what they will with the info.

Hey no argument from me at all. You are good people. 😉

I don't care about you posting these releases in any way. Don't think anybody does or will. Not trying to get you defensive in any way or upset you.

I agree completely that this stuff should all be out there and the ABB should be more active with releases as there is a market for them.

The whole Public Domain after 20 years is another issue. That would be only if no one holds the rights to the material. In this case it would be ACL. Even the ABB would have to get approval and licence it from them to release it.

If that were the case then I would release all the Beatles and Led Zeppelin albums.

The ABB has had many of these types of releases taken down from various places like Ebay. Zeppelin employs a company just to protect their stuff. They will sue your as* in a heart beat. Believe me it is battled in a major way.

With releases like this, the "record company" could be an 18 yrs old kid in his basement with a burner and printer. The ABB passes up countless ways to bring in revenue so maybe they don't give a crap. They definitely don't go to the lengths of people like the Beatles or Zeppelin as the money difference is huge.

But please believe me when I say that I was not being critical of the threads in any way. Just having discussion. You won't ever be under attack from me.

The ABB's stance on video taping has always and remains a definite NO. It is traded on this site constantly as the ABB never enforced it in any way. As for virtually every other band traded on this sight, we have all been breaking the law. Besides The Grateful Dead and a hand full of others, these bands do not allow recording of their shows.

Tons of other stuff like demos by various artists is the same. This is material "leaked or stolen" but definitely not supposed to be traded.

Every person who trades has a pile of illegal material. We have all traded the same shows as the ones that you posted like this ACL show. We have all been breaking the law merely by owning it never mind trading it. The guy releasing this may have got it from one of us. All traders are mini bootleggers.

Even me. 😛

From what I gather it is either British or European copyright law that was recently either discovered or changed to where any live radio broadcast becomes public domain after 20 years which is why everyone is seeing this influx of these "gray" market releases showing up on Amazon UK. It's not all music, it pertains to concerts that were broadcast over the radio.

Usually for recorded music it is a 50 year period before it becomes public domain, but there are ways around it if you have the right deals. However, when you start seeing these Sam Cooke and BB King releases that combine several pre 1966 albums into one box set it is because those have become public domain. (Not to be confused with the "Classic album series releases that contain 5 CD albums with their replica vinyl covers.)

I remember seeing this as a common bootleg back in the late 90s. It was listed as 3rd Set and "fan club" release and I think it even listed Tom Dowd as producer - whom ever put it together did a little bit of homework. I thought I missed a HTN release, but I took a listen to it, and the quality was abysmal. A bummer, because I missed the ACL broadcast the first time around (and wanted to hear the resurrected "Ain't Wasting Time No More"), and prepared myself for the rerun in the summer. I was anticipating it ALL FREAKING SUMMER, only to find that the day of the broadcast, PBS ran BBC coverage of Princess Di's funeral. I never saw the show until maybe 5 years ago someone posted it on Youtube so I took a 60 minute coffee break at work.

It's a great show, but I doubt it is anything more than the stereo audio from the original broadcast (which might be good). Hopefully it's better than the old bootleg.

Hey man, no offense taken. I love reading your posts and there is probably no one on here that has more experience on the "inside"of the music biz as you. I always appreciate your fascinating insights.

I felt the same way as you when I got a copy of it that was abysmal. I do remember having located a copy of the video that was very clean but can't remember how the audio was.

I originally thought this was a DVD of the show. Even worse that it is audio only. LOL

Still have my original VHS recording when it first aired and protect it. Made some copies for friends and for myself.

Someone here (hate to say I can't remember who) sent me a DVD copy as an extra with a trade. Couldn't make DVD copies at the time and lent it to a friend. Haven't seen it or him in years now. 😛

Love the Woodstock show even more and still only have my original VHS of that show. They did the ABB Nation proud that day. The show that they played later that night in Boston is totally smoking. As if Woodstock was a warm up. For those that haven't heard it, well worth tracking it down.

Another obvious DVD release that I would love to see is the pay-per-view that they did with Jack. If I remember correctly, it was from Boston too.

I hit that link and saw Grateful Dead, 11/11/71, Atlanta Municipal Auditorium.

My first Dead show a couple weeks after Duane's death. The cover has skulls with copper hats on. I laughed out loud because there was a very heavy police overreach at the show.

Of course I bought it.

Looks like you're right. I'm very disappointed....thought it was the DVD. Oh well.

I TOTALLY agree about the Woodstock show. I used to listen to that show over and over - it was like the ABB came out to make a STATEMENT and they were just breathing fire. Probably my favorite version of Back Where It All Begins, and that's saying a lot. My favorite portion of that tune was always Warren's long, first solo and on this one he just soars. This DEFINITELY NEEDS an official release. But I doubt that'll ever happen since it hasn't already.

Also agree about the Great Woods DVD with Jack. Just another missed opportunity by the ABB.

It's clear that ABB management does not care about these releases. With Amazon and eBay, if they asserted rights to the music, the listings would be taken down in a heartbeat. It's only a pity that people are paying bootleggers for music that should be free.

At least bootleggers like Mid Valley in Japan will re-master their releases. these guys from the UK just take what is freely trade and sell it.

Just listened to this and it sounds very good. Not sure if it is from the source tapes as claimed, but the sound is excellent and there is no hiss at all. I'll have to do an A/B comparison sometime with my other copies, but for someone who doesn't trade (again, many people can't, don't or don't want to) getting the Cow Palace show in a nice package for about 15 bucks is a helluva good deal, IMHO.

Not sure if you have the show they did at Great Woods the same day as Woodstock but I call the BWIAB - Warren Part 2. Over the years it has been one of my most missed songs from the ABB. Could be Warren's crowning moment with the ABB. Every night was good and some nights totally insane. There is a show in 96 where he just goes bananas and after the insanity, it is time for Dickey's solo and Dickey cuts his solo shorter than even the studio version. As if to say, how can you play after that? Or maybe he had tilted a couple. 😉

Definitely a good add to the ABB collection.

Not sure if I have that one or not - if I do it's buried in one of about 30 boxes locked in storage....so I may to track another copy down. I completely agree about all those magical BWIAB nights...man, do I miss those - like I miss those versions of High Falls with Jackie Pearson just going into the stratosphere, in particular one of the Beacon shows from '98, I think it was. Great memories....

Oh yeah - GO HAWKS!!!!

These guys are not from the UK Alan ... they are American organisations that use Amazon UK and Europe as outlets due to the differing copyright laws and the reduced likelihood of a legal challenge ... I am not sure whether the ABB retain legal copyright to any of these broadcasts in any case as they may well have signed them over to the broadcaster ... and like you I agree that it wouldn't be so bad if (like Mid Valley) they made some effort to sonically cleanse the shows ... but I would still welcome an ABB organised release of the shows so that credit goes to where it morally belongs.

I always like when words or band names are misspelled due to complete lack of quality control or even understanding of the bootleg that you are trying to sell.

I noticed one the other day that was "Neil Young And The Crazy Horse".

Interesting thread. Just read it. To add some levity to the discussion this reminds me of an episode of What's Happening, that sitcom from the 70s. Roj, Duane the Rerun got front row tickets to a Doobie Brothers show. Rerun had to smuggle in a big tape recorder in his shirt to record the show. He gets to dancing and the tape recorder falls out and The Doobies just stop playing and look at him like WFT?

Pretty funny. Smile
