After a successful year touring as The Devon Allman Project with special guest Duane Betts - the sons of Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts are joining forces to form The Allman Betts Band.

They will kick off 2019 with a new Allman Betts Band album and a worldwide tour that will feature new music, songs from their solo projects and classic Allman Brothers and Gregg Allman tunes in honor of the 50th Anniversary of The Allman Brothers Band. The new album, which is slated to be released in the Spring of 2019, will be produced by Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price, John Prine and Elvis Presley).

The new ABB will include Devon, Duane, Berry Oakley Jr. (son of original Allman Brothers Band bassist Berry Oakley), slide guitar virtuoso, Johnny Stachela and DAP percussionists R. Scott Bryan (Sheryl Crow) and John Lum.
Peter Levin (Gregg Allman's Hammond B3 player) and Chuck Leavell (former Allman Brothers Band keyboardist and current Rolling Stones keyboardist) will also appear on the record.

Second Annual Allman Family Revival at The Fillmore
Returning for its second year in celebration of Gregg Allman's birthday, and all star family reunion is set to take place at The Fillmore in San Francisco.
"I think that it's important that the music live on" Devon recently told Rolling Stone in an interview.

The evening will feature Devon Allman, Duane Betts, Berry Oakley Jr., Luther and Cody Dickinson, G. Love, Samantha Fish, Jimmy Hall, Ally Venable, Alex Orbison and Marcus King.
Plus Brotherhood of Light, the "original San Francisco psychedelic show" (who are slated to tour with the new ABB in 2019) will be providing visuals and lighting for the evening. Brotherhood of Light has worked with several bands including The Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and The Who.

Before the launch of The ABB in 2019, you can find Devon and Duane on tour through late February 2019 as The Devon Allman Project with special guest Duane Betts. Ticket links and information for those shows can be found here.

I’m excited for this. Sir Chuck will bring some good stuff to the album and I’m looking forward to hearing more of Johnny Stachela as I’m impressed so far.

Can someone post a set-list please?

Just out of curiosity, I am wondering how much of the material is their own?

They are in Phx in December, perhaps I'll head on down and check it out
Cool

Question: How is this a worldwide tour if they aren't leaving the United States?

And while I certainly hope they can keep the ABB family vibe going, the last time I saw each one they were each playing small bars. Been a while but still...

There is a huge gap in the schedule from 4/13 to 6/29 and another gap between 6/29 and 9/1.

Devon is no stranger to playing Europe and those two gaps could be where that "world-wide" aspect comes in.

Hi Lee!

While we mourned Gregg's passing, I was so pleased and found so much solace and peace knowing that Devon and Duane B. would carry on the legacy and be the torchbearers ensuring that the music continued. They both stepped up to fill the void left when Gregg moved on. I applaud that decision.

Devon is an Allman, and Duane is a Betts. Their names and pedigrees allow them to use their names in this new band. They have also earned the right due to their proficiency with the music to do this. They are playing on parity with each other which is why both names are included in the band name, because it is both of them, not just one.

They are keeping the DREAMS alive that Gregg and Duane had for the band and that's a beautiful thing. I think we should say Thank You to them for that.

Cool

I could see them doing a Beacon show, maybe a pair of them. However they would go bankrupt attempting more than that.

Here are a couple from this last tour where it was "The Devon Allman Project featuring Duane Betts". Duane would open, then Devon would play and then they would do the encores together.

Also, about the world tour comment, I think they just came back from Europe (or at least the UK) not that long ago.

They could have special guests and while the run would not be as long as the ABB runs, they could still do it on a regular basis. (like Field of Dreams, if you build it they will come, the people would come out for it).

This band could become big. But probably not as big as the ABB.Both Allman and Betts have stated they want to have their own songs and sound but naturally they will play some of their father's songs as they are part of their DNA.

Berry Oakley on bass. Get one of the Trucks drummers on drums, Jaimoe as a guest and Chuck on keys would sell out the Beacon a few nights in a row.

I was never impressed with Duane when he sat in with the ABB in Same Thing and Dreams during most of the 90s or in Great Southern in the 2000s. But after he toured with Dawes it's as if someone flipped a switch. Duane Betts is a very good and inspired player now and Devon Allman is more like Duane Allman on guitar than his father. Both young men have several fine Gibson and Fender guitars that were owned by their fathers.

This is a chart from the show they " sold" this morning. They could play a Beacon stand? I am amused.

I can't wait to hear this band if they play a town near me!

What I don't understand though, is why Oakley's name isn't part of the name. Seems to me that he is just as important as the other guys when it comes to pedigree and paying tribute to their fathers. Why isn't it the ABO Band?

Given that the show is nearly 6 months from now, I would cut them some slack.

I do. I am just saying lets cool it with the Beacon stand or talk about how big they are going to be. They are not 19 year old kids just starting out. They are guys in their 40s who have not written any songs that the public at large knows. I like them all and am glad to see them out there and hope for good things for them. I believe they are doing it for their true love of playing but the odds of commercial success are very long at best.

Good question about Oakley but this is clearly a Devon and Duane venture. A Beacon run is a fallacy right now. They are playing small places for the most part and I am sure festivals. Hard to say how high is up. They are fun to watch and great for any ABB fan to latch on to...but this band has no identity....yet. are they a jam band? Pop? Country? Guitar band? The album will be a telling tale. One thing for sure though...I think we are all rooting for them

Good question about Oakley but this is clearly a Devon and Duane venture.

About 5 years ago I remember seeing a video of Dickey playing Statesboro Blues with all of the "Kids"...The intro kicks in and BO Jr. starts to play the Duane part on lead. Maybe 5 beats in, Dickey stepped in and said something along the lines of "No, No!"...somebody else play this part and took that break from BO and had someone else play it. Question> Is this why it is an Allman Betts "Thing"? How is Berry O as a Musician?...I ask because I m not that familiar with his playing. Anyone else recall this video?

I saw a show with BO playing bass in Butch's Freight Train Band. I was close to the stage (maybe 25 feet back) to see what and how the musicians were playing. I thought he was quite good.

Never seen the video you speak of.
