A Jazz Celebration of the Allman Brothers Band

Released in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Allman Brothers Band’s debut album, the 10-song set of jazz interpretations of Allman Brothers Band favorites features Marc Broussard and Ruthie Foster on vocals on two songs each. Big Band of Brothers A Jazz Celebration of the Allman Brothers Band also features Jack Pearson on guitar, who performed as a member of the Allman Brothers Band from 1997 to 1999. The celebrated trombonist Wycliffe Gordon of Jazz at Lincoln Center fame is featured as a soloist on “Don’t Want You No More,” and wrote the arrangement for “Statesboro Blues.” Gordon is consistently ranked among leading trombone players in the Downbeat critics poll and has topped the list at least five times.

This is exciting. I listened to the samples and they sound great. Going back to the 70s I could imagine a jazz big band version of Lizzie Reed. I be picking this up for sure.
Like it - Chuck covers Statesboro on his own big band album - like how they used one Of Dickey’s solo parts as a melody line in Hot Lanta

The whole disc is great - really like how they keep the original slide guitar/vocals in a few of the songs - the tweaks here & there into big band arrangements are subtle & minimal - these guys obvious love Duane, Berry & the ABB
