Hey everyone, just wanted to wish a belated 50th to some of the best and most important shows the Allman Brothers ever played, at the 2nd annual Atlanta Pop Festival on July 3rd and 5th, 1970.

I can't be the only one who wore these shows out this weekend. Such a crucial moment in the history of the band, and a time when they really rose to the occasion. It seems like every hippie in the South was there, and it did wonders for the Allmans reputation and helped make them the iconic band they were.

I also went back and listened to some Lakewood shows from the 90s, which were often on or around July 4th. That True Gravity from 7/7/96 is no joke! So many great July 4th related Allmans memories.

Amen brother. I saw several ABB shows in 1970 and those six men were young and hungry to show everyone they were serious musicians and song writers and came to play. I think they played 306 shows in 1970. It was exhausting and took great dedication to travel thr country in that small station wagon then a improvement when they got the windbag. The next year the rolled into the Fillmore East and that album and all the touring struck gold and Bill Graham declared the Allman Brothers the best damn band in America.

That album, not Bob Segar and the Silverbullet Band, is the best and most sophisticated live rock album ever. Bob rocks real good but they didn't get into sophisticated complex passages influenced by musical greats such as Miles Davis. I'm not dissing Bob Seeger at all. His album rocks and is fun.
