some classics
A few artists had > 1 album that year - and they were both good without throw away tunes. Pretty rare today (even though cds are longer than albums)

It may be impossible to top 1971 (or 1970), but 1973 was a monster year for timeless classic albums....across multiple genres.  I've heard Warren say the 1967-1973 window may be the greatest of them all.  Hard to argue.  Most greatest-album-of-all-time lists seem to pull 50% from that 6-7 year period.
