I know this is not on a lot of VH fans list as being one of the best, but this was my gateway into the band at the age of 11-12 I believe. Still one of my favorites.

Yes I remember that one. Haven't heard it in a long time.

Their best lineup to me. With few exceptions the original lineup ( if it's the one they got famous with) of a band is always the best or the one I like best.

That is probably Eddie's FrankenStrat guitar. It is a parts guitar. I didn't know until years later that some of the switches and pickups were dummies. Not wired up to anything. Eddie said he did that to confuse others who were trying to rip off his tone.

He did have his own tone back then.

Take a good close up look at the Franken Strat!!

It doesn't look like much but it helped make someone a millionaire!

Three songs immediately popped in my head when I saw this thread.  As did a memory of a loved one

The songs:

1) Little Guitars

2) The Full Bug

4) Big Bad Bill

The memory:

Like you Jazzfunk, I have a memory as a youth of seeing and hearing this album...My older sister, Lisa, was a Van Halen fan and so had Diver Down, and later, 1984, stacked by the stereo in the front room and I heard both quite frequently.  Usually after Catholic church on Sunday's.  About 11:45 Am or so i seem to recall.

The two of us, along with my other siblings, would often have some pretty intense arguments on whether it was TV or some tunes on the stereo.  This was always a given on Sunday's.  Throw down for control of the media...

She passed away in 2009...But your posting of this thread has brought me a very fond memory of her.  Thank you.....

Pretty Sappy....Sorry, I blame it one the Chocolate Diesel...And Jim Beam.

Good choice on the songs, and throw in Secrets for sure. Heck the whole album!!

Sorry to hear of your sister. Its interesting  how music and other things stir up memories of the past, happy, joyful, sad, crazy, a loved one, and etc... glad it gave you some fond thoughts of her.

This is one of those things you had to be there to  appreciate, so my memory of Diver Down.

Like I mentioned I was about 11-12 when I stumbled on VH and when this release in 1982.

One of my good friends and I were out riding bikes and we just got back to his place , when his older brother pulled up in this 1970's Plymouth Duster, orange I believe. The stereo was blaring music, he was in passenger side, kinda giving us this scowl. He reminded me of the Eddie Haskell type from Leave It To Beaver. Kind of a "R" rated version of him, the side of him how he treated Beaver and Larry Mondello, not the nice way he acted toward June and Ward. So you get my drift and those of us who had older siblings can relate. So he preceded to get out of the car with music loud as possible. I cant remember if it was me or my friend but it was asked, " Who are you listening to?" Did not know it at the time, but it as DD on cassette being played. He held up an album that was red and had a single white stripe down from the upper left corner to lower right. Could not read anything on it, since we weren't to close. He said , in his best Eddie Haskell attitude, "Its the new Van Halen you d!ckheads, so get out of here!". So my memory of being introduced to that album, band and sound was being called a d!ckhead!!

Speaking of Beam.....

I like Old Homicide. Bottled last week!!

Was watching an interview with Eddie and they asked him who were some of the guitar players that inspired him. EVH said Eric Clapton in the 1960s. So the lady said Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page any others? And he said no not really.

Eddie also said he reached a point that NO guitar brands satisfied him. Be it something from Fender or Gibson or whatever, none of them made exactly what he wanted so he began making parts guitars and painting them, doing everything. Same with Amps. Never entirely happy with anything.

Glad he didn't make parts automobiles too. That would take forever!!
