30 yrs ago today 5-3-1994

Hard to believe its been that long. 30yrs ago released on 5-3-1994.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

My personal favorite studio album not done by the original lineup

@porkchopbob Interestingly Where It All Begins is the ONLY new album to sell over 500,000 copies and earn a gold record since 1979's Enlightened Rouges. So it is their last new album to go gold.
Seven Turns is close with over 450,000 sold in the US.
No One Left To Run With got a lot of airplay on album rock radio stations in 1994 so that may explain it. It was so catchy and cool sounding on the radio.
Alan Woody wrote one for that album I liked a lot. What's Done Is Done. Woody said in an interview he let Gregg have it after Woody did all he could with it and Gregg finished it very nicely.
And they set up just like being on stage live at a sound stage in Florida Burt Reynolds owned a did very few overdubs.
Dickey commented he didn't use his Goldie Les Paul on No One Left To Run With except he did use Goldie to overdub the guitar solo in the middle.
My memory isn't clear about that interview today. I can't remember which guitar Dickey used for his rhythm track on that. He had just bought two Paul Reed Smith guitars because he was irritated at Gibson and that lasted for a few years in the 1990's for " Ignoring me" is how Dickey put it. Not sure what was happening or not happening there.
I think Dickey said he used his old Fender Stratocaster hardtail on that rhythm track. Has a Bo Diddley vibe.
I'm almost sure Temptation Is A Gun is a song the band Journey never used and never finished and they let Gregg Allman finish it. I remember reading something about that.

Where does 30 years go? Wow. The ABB were riding high and back to a level of fame for current work (at least among rock n roll fans) that few would have ever predicted. No One To Run With was playing on rock radio that whole summer. The Brothers were doing regular appearances on the late night TV circuit. The were selling out sheds all over the country and later that year got word they were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility (and the Hall meant something more back then!).
I remember seeing a University of Alabama Fraternity T Shirt a year later that used the Where it All Begins title and artwork for one of their shirts. Just an example of how much college kids were in to it. Guitar World had Dickey & Warren on the cover.
In the Summer of 1993 and 1994 we had big pre-show parties among 22-25 year old crowd of guys & girls who all then went to the show and had a blast on the lawn at Lakewood. My buddies & I were just reminiscing about it. For me personally, summer 1994 was my 5th straight summer seeing the band outdoors in Atlanta. It had become a prized tradition.
I had always wished Chuck Leavell had been brought in as a guest in the studio in the '90s.....there are some songs on this record he would have a great addition to. But overall it's hard to argue with this album. it's a gem of a record has about 5-6 songs on it I've played pretty regularly for 30 years (and all this was less than a year since Dickey didn't finish the Summer 1993 tour and the status of the band appeared to be in jeopardy).
God Bless the Allman Brothers Band!

Dang! Well it will get played on the way to work tomorrow. Cheers!
