Here's the download link from last night's Gov't Mule with John Scofield show. The second set really reached. "Things Ain't What They Used to Be" (the Ellington tune) had Warren and Scofield having as much fun as any two guitarists I've ever seen playing together.

The cover of the Billy Cobham song, "Stratus" is also phenomenal. You folks have probably all seen the ripping version from Wanee with Derek joining Mule for the tune.

The encore, although a little short for my taste, was a stupendous mash up of Jeff Beck's "Freeway Jam" and "Little Wing". In fact, right after the show, the Mule site had it labeled "Free Wing Jam".

That was the last night in an historic run. I encourage you to download and listen to the show. The entire performance is full of teases and song quotes. Warren frequently paid homage to ABB.

Warren now joins Phil for 4 more nights as the Capitol. They are also streaming.

Here's the show:

I was at both the Capitol shows. I have to say that the jams at this show surpassed annything the ABB has done over the last few years in my opinion. They were that great. Historical even.

Excellent to hear Doug! I completely agree. I really feel like Scofield and Warren together was similar to Coltrane and Miles. At least in an historical context.

Danny Lewis was fantastic, as was Jorgan. Matt was stupendous on the drums, changing styles as the songs required.

You must have had a blast watching them cover Ellington. Warren looked so happy! I certainly wish I had been there in the flesh.

Good on ya!

With how amazing these shows were and how much fun it seemed they were having I am hoping that maybe they revisit this lineup every so often kind of like a side project like the Word or the recent NMO. These shows were epic and I can't see them not doing it again sometime!

Billy,Doug and Pete....you nailed it...this was spectacular and original....for me,this is an excellent replacement in march for the ABB.Then,to follow it with Phil...cool!

Perhaps the only improvement would be to reverse the order-Phil should be week one and Sco Mule week two.Sco Mule is unique sounding and given that, there is so much room to expand their repertoire.Their "big"sound is a better fit after a week of Phil...not that I'm not looking forward to more Phil!

I would have to agree with you guys- Sco-Mule is an incredible band- I've never seen Warren play better guitar (except with Derek). The chemistry between Gov't Mule and Scofield is unbelievably explosive- every single tune with Sco-Mule reaches a mind-blowing psychedelic climax that would amaze any fan of great electric guitar playing- regardless of "genre" or labels. Warren being free of the ABB seems almost supercharged- it gives him extra mojo power on guitar. However, that stuff with Allen Woody and Scofield is even more intense! "Afro Blue" with Mike Barnes and Sco hits the stratosphere and brings down the house. Special thanks to Muleman (Tom) for taping some of the new shows for B&P!! Muleman Rocks!!

My hope is that Sco-Mule will go out and tour together every three or four years or so. I'd also like to see the Derek Trucks Band do the same thing every three years or so- with Jimmy Herring and Warren as guests.
