Early on he said "life is like a sh*t sandwich, the more bread you have the less sh*t you have to eat". He thought money would solve all the problems, it never does.
Of all the things he and others have lost over the years, pain is the one thing nobody can take from you, you can lose everything else, but your pain, nobody can take that from you and that's what makes a great blues musician.
Pain is also empathically understood by other people, which is why he is so loved. He sings to their souls. Kindred spirits always know one another on other levels.
His greatest legacy may be yet to come. We ought to say thank you every so often.
