10 years gone

This popped on my Facebook memories from 10 years ago. Still missed
“Just heard about the passing of Randy Stephens, a friend who I met through a shared love of the Allman Brothers Band. Brother Buppalo was one of the finest folks I ever met who approached life with joy and grace. He leaves behind a multitude of people who were touched by him, and a boatload of musicians who lost the best fan they could ever have-because if they were any good at all Randy was going to make sure everyone knew about them.
Go with grace and peace Brother-fly on”

As part of my daily meditation ritual (call it prayer if you want to), I always include knowing Randy among the things that I am most thankful for. I've told the story a jillion times - Randy and I met at about 30,000 feet on a plane returning from New York after a run of Beacon shows. By the time the plane landed we were old friends. Our years together were brief (10 years?) but the friendship was deep. There was and can never be a bigger fan of Duane and the Allman Brother's Band. I thought I was huge fan until I met Randy. Randy had the ability or insight to connect virtually anything (especially music) -to Duane.
There was a line in a movie called, "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" (paraphrased) "- a man is not dead until the last time someone says his name". Everyday, I make sure to say Randy's name aloud at least once. I miss him every day.
Peace

Hard to believe it's 10 years already.Met Randy at one of the Beacon parties. He was a great guy.Had a lot of conversations with him about horse racing.
RIP

A FB memory popped up on mine too. I met Randy at the 2011 Jam For Duane. Cordial, outgoing, engaging, down to earth. It was a real pleasure meeting and spending time with him. He even reminded me that Georgia is EST while Alabama is CST so to leave an hour earlier to get to the airport in Atlanta. His passing was very sad and Randy is missed. Rock In Peace Randy 🌹
