10 Years Ago Today...

I have said it before but with about 20 years of Beacon shows under my belt, that Scofield show was right at the top and on the night that one blew me away more than Clapton.
Two years later took him back and we were at the Scofield show. He was an "expert" by then - and I had a hard time convincing him that there were aspects of that show that were better.
Agreed. I was a big Jazz fan but Sco got big when I was on Jazz hiatus. I was there thinking "this guy looks just like one of my high school teaches" as he blew the crowd away (all the while chewing gum if I remember) Great Liz Reed. Great Mountain Jam

Gonna have to dust that one off and re visit it (along with the EC shows). I wasn’t there, but I also remember the Randy Brecker show from that year blowing me away too

i don,t pop in very often anymore but saw this thread and what wonderful memories it brought back. My wife and I were there for the weekend shows and the vibe around the hotel Friday was electric. People talking about the Thursday show and those of us who were there for the Friday show hopping Eric would be there again. When we got back to our seats and saw the blue strat on stage I was in heaven. Never saw so many ear to ear smiles as everyone left the theater. Even now I will pull up the you tube of the show when friends are over and smugly say "I was there".

I will be popping in my 3/20/09 & & 3/26/09 shows in my dvd player this weekend for a little 10 year reunion of the shows. and although they are readily available on Youtube, there is something about the old school dvd that I still enjoy. I still play the CD versions from time to time as well. To paraphrase Robert Plant "does anyone remember cd's?"

3/20 & 3/26 were my two shows. Preferred 3/26 because the intensity level was the highest I I ever saw the band play at
The sco show I believe was 2011?
And again; I truly believe ec waited till night two to play Liz reed cause he doesn’t like to leave his comfort zone. Like Paul McCartney ec jams for the most part with guests on his material not the other way around

Elizabeth Reed may just not have been rehearsed enough to roll out for night 1. They played everything like they were a band, not a band with a guest sit-in, so no shame in waiting to play a complex instrumental. They were so damn crisp on everything played each night, I can't find faults, but I wouldn't have complained if Liz Reed were played 3/19 too!!

And we got "Anyday" 3/19, so for me it was a good trade off.

Earlier post had link for second show:
Here is the link to the entire first night:
So hard to believe that this is already ten years ago. Was a challenging time for me as I had lost my job during the Great Recession. This and all the 40th anniversary performances provided a needed uplift. BTW, job stuff eventually worked out very well.

wow 10 years, just realized that on reading this post. I attending 4 shows that run. The March 19th Clapton show, the Box Skaggs show, the Bruce Hornsby show and the final show with no guests except the ghost of Dicky.
I remember sitting in Loge Row C center for Clapton show and for the first set the 4 seats in Row A in front of me were empty. People tried to sit in them and we quickly ushered out. So the lights dim for second set --the Clapton set and in comes James Dolan and his entourage. Dolan of course owned the Beacon and still does. LOL. Once Eric departed so did he and his people.
What a jerk, i thought.

We had Moogis parties at our house for the Clapton shows. Then, Denise and I came down for the 40th anniversary show and 2 final shows of that run. Those were the days! We need a Peach Corps reunion. Plenty of great musicians that are still part of the family, that can make up a Super Wanee Jaimo, Derek, Warren, Jimmy Herring, Jack, Chuck, Oteil, Scott, Jr Mack, Jimmy Hall, Susan, a set by Allman Betts Band and so many more that I'm missing and of course the legend and elder statesman, Mr Betts.
I'm game!
