So I haven't taken a flight and checked a bag in a LONG time. I think the last time was one year at the Beacon and they lost the damn thing. No toothbrush for a day. Mad 😉

Anyway, I am booking a flight from Chicago to Detroit and I am bringing ThB with me so she can meet mom. So I'm thinking maybe we just use one bag. It's $25 to check a bag. Really!!!

Going with the carry on.

Since Lee doesn't have a car, should we tell him gas isn't 19 cents a gallon any more?

😉 😛

Guess the car thing isn't my call after all. I brought it up to THB last night and and she said we are NOT getting a car.

We don't really need one at all but we are paying $532 to go to Meeechigan this weekend when we wouldn't have to.

Yeah I know. We had one of those Zip Car things behind our old building. Convenient. It sounds weird (especially coming from Detroit), but I don't mind not driving for the most part.

Another expense as most know.

Re: eclipse, we watched it from Franklin, NC - really neat, I was amazed at how quickly it turned dark, then how quickly it got light again, did notice a temp drop. Where we were, not in a populated area, half up on a mountain, it got eerily quiet in the runup, no breeze, no critter noises at all.

Right during the blackout a flock of turkeys started squawking and making funny noises, but that was it as far as wildlife.

Alan, how did your deal turn out? Any traffic headaches getting from Bristol to where you watched it ?

A lot of people from the Chicago area drove to Southern Illinois to see the eclipse..... it took them 14-16 hours to drive home because of traffic and road construction.... 😮

Bristol was Saturday night, so we came home afterwards. Lightly attended, no problems either direction. It was a fairly entertaining race except for the ending. I'm not a Kyle Busch fan...

The eclipse was just awesome. Saw the diamond ring, the corona during totality, the 360 degree "sunset", and forgot to look for things that I had meant to look for. There wasn't really anything unusual about the animals that stands out. We were in Sparta, TN, which is about midway between Knoxville and Nashville. Where we were was almost directly dead center for the line of totality. One of the most awesome things I have witnessed, worth taking a day off for. Getting there was a breeze, even got there a little early and drove down to Center Hill Lake and took a look. Getting back took about 5 hours for what should be a 1.5 hour trip, it was gridlock on all the main thoroughfares - I-40, US 70, US 411, so I took a lot of detours and came back in a roundabout way. It was after 8 when we finally got back. It was worth it. I hope to see the eclipse in 2024.

Would be cool to be in a spot to see the total eclipse. Only saw the partial but it was cool.

Is the minor league stadium in Gary right next to the commuter train tracks? If so that place is tiny.

I seen a lot of posts hear talking up Jason Isbell.

Have meant to give him a listen but haven't yet purchased any releases.

Any recommendations?

Finally watched the Hateful Eight...had to commit to 3 hours....

I enjoyed it, much like other Tarantino movies....

You have to be ready for the excessive violence - by now I laugh whenever I see it in his movies....

His dialogue is always great.....

My wife walked by a couple of times and said 'How can you watch this"?

I said - "It's Tarantino........."

A friend suggested Southeastern and Live From Alabama and both are great. In December I bought all his other releases and now have the latest. I love it all. Dude doesn't write a bad song.

True. All his material is phenomenal. His live shows are fantastic, too. He has given me something new to follow since the ABB has called it quits. Don't get me wrong, I still listen to a lot of ABB, but Jason has really caught my attention.
